Rust and Purple Quilt

I've had this vintage quilt top in my stash for several years--long enough for the rusty orange and purple combinations to really grow on me. I'm so glad I turned to machine quilting in my later years. It's just not possible to hand-quilt all I want to do.

Put together with a muslin back and a cotton batting, this quilted up quickly. I outlined the stars, and in the plaid blocks I just did free-hand concentric square spirals. They don't really show on the busy front, but make a pleasant pattern on the plain back.

I should have taken my pictures after the run through the washer and dryer--it looked so much quiltier then!

Nice, Anna, nice - your quilting posts are an encouragement to me. I have 2 quilt tops hanging around, in addition to what I'm working on now, and the one I still want to make from my mother's things. I'm NOT a whiz!

you have inspired me to finish a quilt top that was a thrift store find. sometimes i wonder about the story of these quilt tops.

Thank you Anna, for inspiring us all to get out our "walking feet". I love the really strong orange and the use of checked fabrics in this quilt. It's so helpful to see where and how you quilt on a particular pattern. I have an old "found" hexagon quilt waiting for some attention... Will post some photos of it soon. Hope you are all well.

Although one of my own unfinished quilt tops almost qualifies as "vintage", I, too, have a thrift shop find awaiting inspiration. I seem to be stuck at the same point the original quilter was...

Some things are timeless!

I have a similar quilt top that was found in my great-grandmother's linen closet. I am hand quilting it....what was I thinking....it is taking forever.
I also have this need to "rescue" old quilts and linens....

Lovely! Anna I am making slow but steady progress with my beginning sewing and I so look forward to being able to do some quilting some day. I'll keep at it.

I love your posts on quilting. I have been working on cutting my huge collection of scraps into 4" squares and hope to get them sewed up into tops pretty soon. This quilt is so beautiful with the scrappy blocks alternated with the plaid ones. I had thought about doing alternate white blocks but like the idea of using plaid so I may do that for my 2 year olds quilt!

Thank you for all the inspiration. I don't comment often, but I read your blog every day and always come away with new ideas.
