The Granny Square Groweth
I'm calling this one "Ornamental Cabbage." See those dark greens, cream, and purple?
It's all one big granny square, but every fourth row is done in half-double stitches, just to keep things a little firmer.
When you're in the mood to crochet a blanket, nothing else will do!

Oh I love your colours! Cabbage-colored, indeed! The only trouble with that kind of granny is that you need soooo much yarn to do a round after a while ... But for gratification and ease it's my favourite way to crochet! Yours will be lovely when it's done.
I crocheted a big square once. It wasn't a granny square, but some other. Anyway, it didn't end up being a square, exactly. :D

Yes, the name is perfect, so inspired. I had never heard of adding the half-double round, but it seems a very good idea.

Anna, I know this is completely off topic, but in light of the upcoming holiday season, I wondered if you would consider a gift-giving post? I know your family gives trips in lieu of junk toys, and I see how that is perfect for older children. For younger children though, say Daisy's age, how does she deal with the delayed gratification when there is no actual "stuff" to rip open on Christmas morning? I picked up so much plastic broken bits of toys before the New Year last year, that I vowed to begin the weaning process. Now, that Christmas is just around the corner, I'm starting to feel rather stumped!!! Thank you, Sandra
