At the Pound

This was a long-awaited day: Daisy's trip to the pound to pick out her new kitten.

Our dignified tabby, Bossy, died in the spring. Daisy had been asking rather ghoulishly all year if I thought maybe one of the cats would die soon so she could get a *new* kitten. Well, tick disease had its way and she got her wish.

For weeks her heart was set on "afluffywhitePersianwithblueeyes", but surprisingly there weren't any at the animal shelter. Instead there was every kind of kitten that was a gray female. So she chose one of those instead. A dainty tiny cat with white paws and no improper pride.

Bella manfully volunteered to sleep downstairs with the kitty to prevent the squeaky lonely mews. They're tucked up soundly now in Felix's bed with a hot water bottle.

We wanted a lap cat, and I think we got one. And if the sun comes out tomorrow, I'll take her picture.

  1. I don't think I'd better look tomorrow. The pressure is on here for a new kitten since our old cat died last Christmas, but unlike you, I have very grown up and about to fly children, so who's going to be looking after this one? We love cats and have always had one in situ but - they are a tie. What to do? Even the word verification is conspiring. It says priperi which is the rather endearing enquiring noise that cats make.

  2. We adopted a beautiful gray long hair kitty a couple of years ago, and named him "Jazz". He's been the best kitty pet we've ever had. Very loving and friendly to everyone. Looking forward to pictures of your new furbaby. Congratulations Daisy!

  5. Congratulations, Daisy! It must be the age - when one of my sons' fish died recently, his brother said he wished his would die, too, so he could have a different fish!

  6. My husband told me to get a "friendly" cat this time since our last one was timid and shy. She sure is friendly, every time he sits down she gets in his lap and purrs. She's almost obnoxious about it. She also seems to know if guests are not fond of cats and pesters them too. I think I went to the opposite extreme.

  7. I'm sure the kitty is perfect, but it looks like you must have been the best-dressed woman at the pound that day! The wrap dress with a bit of ruffle, so much nicer than jeans!

  9. I was so close to getting a cat to solve our mice infestation problem. Hubby took up the duty of setting up mouse traps as soon as he saw I was dead serious. :b

So, no cats for us....at 14 fewer mice!

  10. Congratulations on your new family member - can't wait to see her! After 16 years of owning multiple male cats, last year when we became cat-less we chose a beautiful little girl from the shelter. Or rather she chose us - she kept reaching out of her cage and grabbing my skirt! She is white with tabby ears, 4 tabby spots on her back and a tabby tail, and named Arwen from LOTR for her huge elfin ears. She is a love and we adore her. Hope you enjoy your new kitty as much!
