Two Funny Pillows

The first one was made from a thrifted dish towel (and photographed upside down, oops!). I used violet cotton for the back and added my new thing--

a bright zipper as part of the design. How else am I going to get rid of a giant kelly green-and-metal monstrosity?

This little chica started with an offbeat embroidery I snagged. It's nicely stitched, but the buds? I'm going to go ahead and call them ungainly. No matter!

Some hot rickrack, a little lime green, and a lot of stripes on the back and it's a statement.

These will go in the shop later this week--I'll announce.

  3. I don't embroider, so I don't know what you mean by ungainly buds - it's a lovely design on that pillow! I'm planning on making a pillow - using the embroidered bodice from a jumper I don't wear anymore, so your pillow creations are a definite encouragement to me!

As for your unusual zipper placement - I'm guessing that there isn't anyone in your family who ever says to you - "What did you do THAT for???" I'm assuming you're the queen of your house - you are fortunate! :)

  7. Oh we'd so like to learn how to do zippers here. I watched a few how- to tutorials, but just don't get it.

    Your pillows are so cute.

  8. Kimmie, these zippers are too simple--no tutorial needed. Just take your fabric and press the end under the way you want it. Lay it on top of the zipper and pin, then stitch it in place. Repeat for the other side. You don't even need a zipper foot if you keep the fabric far enough away from the zipper's teeth. This is different from installing a zipper in a garment. You can do it!
