We were there 2 years ago while my husband had to be there on business. Did the same thing. I took my daughter to American Girl while my husband took the boys to Borders (or was it Barnes and Noble?) and then we met up for lunch and Giordino's :) We ordered ours no cheese-gasp! The waiter said "no cheese? that's like eating a burrito with no tortilla ;) All those awards by the front door and we said they were missing one, "Best No Cheese Pizza" hands down!
Ah yes....American Girl Place. In 2004 I took my two daughters to the one in New York City (but Chicago's is the original one, I believe). We had a LOT of fun, & they enjoyed shopping for a couple of things each. They'd worked so hard to save their money for this venture, it made it all the more special for them! Glad you had a good time. :o)

Oh, CHicago! Two daughters graduated from a school there, one is working there. And, a good friend worked in the American Girls store one year. So much to see and do in Chicago. Never went to an opera, though.
oh my. giordanos makes this former chicagoan sigh with vicarious culinary bliss. perfect choice for the end of a great trip. hope you saw "the bean", but if not, there's always next time, when you could go to an outdoor concert by the chicago philharmonic orchestra at millennium park. i love chicago!
Oh...I love American Girl. My 12 year old daughter still "plays" with her collection even though she is a little embarrassed to let her friends know. Most of them have moved on to more mature things, but I am loving it. I would love to keep her like this forever! So happy to have discovered your blog. Your photos are gorgeous and your writing beautiful! Happy Easter~
