"If You Are Patient and Paying Attention"

"Most of us figure out by a certain age . . . that life unspools in cycles, some lovely, some painful, but in no predictable order. So you could have lovely, painful, and painful again, which I think we all agree is not at all fair. . . But if you've been around for a while, you know that much of the time, if you are patient and are paying attention, you will see that God will restore what the locusts have taken away."
--Anne Lamott,  Help, Thanks, Wow: The Three Essential Prayers

  1. Oh, I enjoy Anne Lamott; my best friend was just quoting from this particular book the other day (I haven't read it yet). And of course, it's so true.

  2. I loved your quote from Anne Lamoff.
It immediately made me think of this psalm:

Thou who hast made me see many sore troubles wilt revive me again; from the depths of the earth thou wilt bring me up again. - Psalm 71:20

  4. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

I've wondered about Anne Lamott's writings.

  5. I don't usually comment, but thank you for those words. What a beautiful picture. Life has been mostly the painful for the past year, but I love the picture of God as a restorer!

  7. I feel the same way about her! I had to give Operating Instructions away because it was so aggravating to me; I couldn't bear it. But there are nuggets of wisdom peppered throughout her books. If you are patient and pay attention, that is!
