What I've Been Enjoying

The library's sale shelves. I've gotten some great stuff for very little, and I enjoy supporting the library. I try to stop and check at least once a week.

My orchids are all blooming at once.

We spent a few hours in Indianapolis, and I truly enjoyed fabric shopping at the French Seam fine fabric store. I got several stunning pieces to make summer things for Daisy. If you're in the midwest, go there.

I'm finishing up my poetry collection and turning it in tomorrow.

I've been working at the Sisyphyean task of using up my scraps of jersey by piecing a string quilt. You cut your scraps into strips and sew them to a fabric base. I'm using 10-inch muslin squares and I need to make 81 of them. I do about two a day. I'm not racing through this project, but it is so satisfying to see the scrap heap diminish.

Kale from the garden!!

  1. There you are! Busy behind the scenes, but much 'missed' on this side of the pond. How strangely attached we get to our favourite bloggers. Yours was the first blog I ever read I do believe, aeons ago.

  2. Well, that String Quilt looks very easy to accomplish! Thank you for sharing. Books, what's not to like about a library sale!!

  3. It's always a delight (and a privilege that you share) these moments of your life with us. I just took a look at that fabric store online - simply beautiful! Also yes, to support small local libraries!

  5. Ahhh a fabric store to visit in Indy. My daughter lives in Carmel, IN. Next time we visit her, I'll have to check out the fabric store. We used to live in Nappanee, IN and there are some nice fabric stores there too. They are Amish-owned & good prices.

  6. I'm making a string quilt, too, and it does seem Sisyphean! I'm making it with free scraps from the tshirt quilt shop where I work and I'm wondering if I can stop yet! LOL. I learned that, at least with woven fabric, I don't need a base fabric. That makes the process a tiny bit trickier, but not impossible. Can't wait to see yours!

  7. I've missed your posts. :) I hope you'll have a chance to show us some of the things you make Daisy. Your sewing always inspires me.

  10. Oh! I pieced a string quilt for my daughter for Christmas, and loved it! I stabilized the blocks on telephone pages, and that worked well. I'm hoping you'll post a pic when you're finished :-) I've missed your posts!

  11. Love the orchids. And I'd love to see what you make for Daisy this summer. My Annie has already planned out her summer wardrobe: a church dress, a "school" dress, a shopping (?!) dress, and a play dress. :)

I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses your posts and loves seeing them pop up!

  12. Polly, I just finished sewing Daisy two linen dresses. I started with a princess-seam pattern but added a wide midriff band. It's hard to sew for 13-year olds! I do hope to post photos soon.
