This fall Giles will be entering college full-time--his first brick and mortar classes ever.
He plans to bike the four-mile commute, probably because the alternative is having his mother drop him off. He can't drive until he's sixteen, you know.
I must add that he got his college entrance exam score back this week. With no preparation whatsoever, he scored in the 99th percentile.
That's my boy!
If you don't mind me asking, what test did he take? My son is in the same age group and has taken the ACT, and the PSAT already. Oh, they grow so fast...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Giles! I know you're a proud mama tonight. I homeschool our 8 year old son & 5 year old daughter. Our son is reading at a 6th-8th grade reading level. He claims he wants to be an inventor. What are Giles ambitions?
ReplyDeleteTracy--he did the ACT. 33 baby!!! He's planning to be a photographer.
ReplyDeleteIs Giles going to a community college? If so, my oldest son took the same route - started cc when a late 15, did two years, and then transferred.
ReplyDeleteIt saved us a lot of money, and time!
Anna, congratulations to your son. I know you are so proud of him. Hardly a day goes by now that I don't contemplate what homeschooling might have done for my own children (now 20 yrs.down the road); they were/are bright, creative people. I think about this now, especially, as I walk into my classroom of first graders.
ReplyDeleteLOVED the pics of your garden and the notes about the lettuce, radishes, and spinach. Nostalgic of my childhood, once again ~ blacksnakes, fresh greens, and all. :=)
Enjoy the rains if they are getting your way.
Congrats Giles! What an accomplishment. (and congrats to the mama as well, job well done indeed)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Giles and to his Mama--job well done!
ReplyDeleteExcellent job, Giles!
ReplyDeleteI have long wanted to ask what curriculum choices you have made.
Great Score, Giles. My son got a 28. We were pretty happy with that!
ReplyDeleteI am facing the same issues with my own, very bright, 13 yo daughter - but she wants to go to high school. Can you share how you decided to send Giles to college rather than to a private high school? My daughter is ready for the rigors of college, but wants a "high school" experience of football games, being on the varsity golf team and with kids her own age.
ReplyDeleteShe has taken one or two community college courses. She doesn't want to be "adults," she wants high school. I find so few folks faced with this type of problem, I would love for you to share the process you and your family went through to arrive at this decision.
Congratulations to Giles - he is going to be a great photographer!
Miss Marys
Woo-hoo! Praise be to God for such an awesome gift!
ReplyDeleteWow what a smart kid just make sure he knows you would love him even if he faild
ReplyDeleteCan I ask what college is? I am from Australia and we have primary school (Kindergarten to year 6 - age 6 to 12) and high school (year 7 to 12 - ages 13 to 18) Children can leave in year 10 at age 16 but most go on to year 12. Then we have University or technical college after year 12. Children can go to technical college after year 10 especially if they want to specialise in a trade or things like tourism and hospitality.
ReplyDeleteI think Giles should be a photographer for the new Victoria Magazine coming out in the fall! (after college, of course, or perhaps on summer breaks...)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on his impressive test scores!
Congratulations to Giles and of course to you. I have just found your site/blog and can not tell you how much I have enjoyed reading it,( still more reading to do,it is very late in Australia.)Will come by on a regular basis, your cleaning is very much akin to mine. Thanks for a lovely blog
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Giles and his teachers.
ReplyDeleteMrs Mac,
ReplyDeleteCollege is the same thing as uni. Students can either choose to go to community college or directly to a university.
At community college students can take the first two years of a four year university degree or get a certificate in a trade, similar to a TAFE.
A four year college is very similar to a regular uni is Australia. We take four years because there are extra studies in history, art, philosophy, etc in addition to the area of specialization.
Congratulations Giles! I am sure that if he makes photography his chosen profession he will be a great success.
ReplyDeleteMichelle
Kuddos to you all! I just hope he gets to class on time...as I can imagine there will be so much to photograph along the way to college ;-)
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful that God has given him his artistic gift, may He be glorified in all he does!
again much congratulations!
