We are deep in the dog days now; the highest heat has settled down on us and the cicadas sing night and day. I try not to get in the car after noon--all emergency rickrack runs must be done in the morning.
It is easy to wish the summer away but I've learned better. Fall will be here soon enough, and I am learning not to wish *anything* away. Instead, I am keeping my eyes open for each day's marvels.
Late summer corn.
Felix's boy hands turning into man hands right before my eyes.
Cold fruit, air conditioning, iced tea.
Swimming by moonlight.
You are so right about enjoying each day. It's funny because all winter, everyone was complaining of the cold and longing for the summer and now that it's here, everyone is longing for the cool weather again.
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could remember your words! It's so true!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was dreading the heat yesterday, I remembered how in February when we were blanketed with our sixth big snow, I day-dreamed about basking in the heat of summer. Very appropriate post for August.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder! It was 100 here yesterday and I was manning a yard sale with my SIL and found myself wishing for fall -just as I had been wishing for summer back in March. :)

Our corn is a bit dried up this year with now rain and 106 degree temps every day... I must agree that ac is a blessing.. and sweet tea a must!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about not wishing anything away. I'm reminded of that every time I look at my kids now. For some reason its getting increasingly hard to watch them turn one year older. My birthdays don't bother me half so bad.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are breathtaking. Just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your beautiful life. . .
ReplyDeleteWe have been so blessed with a mild summer this year in Northern CA. It's usually 100-112 by now. But I think the worst heat for me was when we lived in MO. 7 yrs. ago..the humidity made it so very hard to breath. But the delights of food from the garden are the best part of summer!
ReplyDeleteFunny that you mentioned your boys hands changing - I noticed that about my boys hands a while back. I wasn't so subtle I made him hold up his hand while I took a photo of it!! He thought I was nuts but all I could see, just as you say, is his hands changing before my very eyes.
