Crocheted Couch Cushions
When Felix was a tiny baby I started crocheting a bedspread with a tiny hook and very fine thread. Fourteen years later (last week) I decided that I had truly lost interest in finishing it, and that I had just enough finished squares to cover three big squishy pillows for the couch.
I laid the crocheting over unbleached muslin and basted it together, then cut out a natural-colored linen back for each pillow. Installed a thrifted zipper (always check for functionality first!) so the whole thing can be washed.
For scale, each crocheted hexagon measures about four inches across. Oh, and I have to add that one of my Homemaker's Encyclopedia's shows a housewife drying a bedspread on the clothesline, and the spread is crocheted from this very pattern!
Just priceless not to mention beautiful
ReplyDeleteI'm just learning to crochet, and I was feeling very smug. Until. I. Saw. This.
ReplyDeleteThat is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and delicate -- crocheting with fine thread is surely the most beautiful form of crochet. Just lovely!

All my old aunts made these for wedding gifts. My Mom still has hers and it is definitely a family heirloom:-) Yours is just as pretty!
ReplyDeleteI have a double bedspread in this pattern, passed down from my dear grandma. Mrs. Nickels gave it to her. I never knew Mrs. Nickels, but she must have been a wonderful lady from the way grandma talked about her. I have thought many times of how long it must have taken for that dear lady to make it for her friend, my grandma. Don't you just want to give her a hug!. I think your pillows are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful! And how wonderful to be able to enjoy the pattern as cushions instead of feeling guilty about an unfinished project!
ReplyDeleteI love that your children will inherit lovingly crafted heirlooms--seems hard to come by these days...
ReplyDeleteThat is just absolutely stunning Anna. I'm so glad that you were able to put all that beautiful hard work to a good practical use, even though it was 'unfinished'. I'm sure you'll enjoy using those cushions.
ReplyDeleteI have a bedspread made by my Great-Grandmother in this pattern and it weighs a ton! I can't even imagine the work that went into this. You did beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful. I too have the Homemaker's Encyclopedias. I just love them! I had a peek in the housekeeping one and found the picture you mention. I am missing three in the set and hope to find them soon.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Liisa
So lovely!
ReplyDeleteIncredibly lovely! I love crocheted things, especially in such dainty patterns, but unfortunately cannot do it myself. It is so inpsiring to see your work!
ReplyDeleteHI, I have enjoyed your blog for a while now, trawled through your archives. I love how everything and everyday has an element of beauty in it. I can also sense a real sense of patience in your home too. How do you fit in everthing? I felt for your family with the death of your Nan. The last few weeks would have been beautiful for her.
ReplyDeleteThe pillow is beautiful and looks so soft and elegant.
ReplyDeleteYour cushion looks lovely. Thank you for your beautiful blog. It is always inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing such beauty in the midst of your mourning.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Leslie
