I finished this little knitted dress for a gorgeous little girl newly arrived from Ethiopia. Just hoping her cheeks fit through the neck opening!
The neckband has eyelets knitted into it for running a ribbon through. Removable, of course, if you have safety concerns.
I used Debbie Bliss' "Dress with Lace Edging" pattern from
The Baby Knits Book. The pattern calls for cotton, but I knitted mine in a very soft wool because that's what I had, and because this baby lives in cold climes.
Oh, Beth, that's just enchanting. *sigh* I suspect that I know who the girly is, what a wonderful Welcome Home present you are giving her. :D

LOVE IT!! When my oldest was four years old I knit a dress similar to this one with my knitting machine. I haven't used that thing in 20 years. Yours is beautiful
ReplyDeleteOh, my! I thought I was commenting on someone else's blog. Boy, is my face red.
ReplyDeleteIt's still a lovely dress. ;)

It is beautiful. Such a lovely color.
ReplyDeleteOh Anna, you truly are amazing! How do you manage to get so many projects done?! :)

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this pattern and the color is perfect.I have no reason to knit this but I have all the supplies on hand and you have tempted me.
ReplyDeleteAnna, the dress is beautiful. I have been a lurker on your blog for some time and so enjoy reading about your family and all the projects that you undertake!
ReplyDeleteThis soft pink rose is one of my favorite colors in the whole world. You've given it a wonderful chance to shine!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! I admire the even way you picked up stitches at the bottom (at least I assume that's how you did the edging) - I just knitted a baby sweater and am dismayed at a little crookedness where the ribbing is attached.
ReplyDeletewow, that is just so, wow , gorgeous! words fail me! wow!
ReplyDeleteOh Anna, it's beautiful! I imagine that color being beautiful on her!
ReplyDeleteI love it.. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Friends of ours just brought home two big-cheeked toddlers from Ethiopia ... what a blessing!
ReplyDeleteLisa, the edging is knitted separately and then sewn on, which is why the join is so even. I knitted a sweater for myself from a vintage pattern where the edging up and down the front was also made separately then sewn on, and I was really impressed with how much neater it was than when you go back and pick up stitches.
ReplyDeleteOf course, a lot of people hate to sew the pieces together when they're done knitting them, which may be why patterns steer clear of that. But I love it!
Thanks, Anna - I am going to keep that in mind.
ReplyDeleteI love this little dress and I know it must be for the
ReplyDeleteLittle Princess with all the beautiful hair and adorable little cheeks!!! She will be so precious in this and a very loving thing to do for her. I wish more children in this world could be as fortunate as she!!

That is so beautiful! I love reading your blog- it inspires me to be crafty or atleast dream of the day when I have time to be crafty! I just started knitting again after not knitting for a few years. I'm trying socks for the first time. Anyway, my oldest daughter (5) needs a new spring dress for church and I'd love to make her one. I'm looking for a pattern with a knitted top and sewn skirt- do you know of such a thing? I found one so far and it has a sleeveless top which isn't my first choice- any ideas? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love it! Very nice knitting job. It is wonderful to stumble across other Christian ladies who knit, sew, etc. Yesterday was the first time I've been on your blog. I will be returning, for I like what I see!
