Understandably wary at first, Frederick daily grows bolder and more confident. See him savage the little twigs off the giant fig tree branch Felix installed in his room days *before* we knew we would get a parrot.
His feathers are such delicate and subtle shades of gray. Then oops! that lipstick red tail just to remind you that he's in fact *not* all about business.
He's brilliant, loves to talk, imitates all our voices. Gentle, loves to be tickled on the head by everyone including Daisy (supervised of course!), loves Duplos and playing cards, eats his veggies.
Looks silly when upside down.
Oh, he is so handsome! Does he know it? =)
ReplyDeleteAww...what a sweet post about a sweet pet! Love his colors!
ReplyDeleteFor everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks the door will be opened. The Lord has blessed you with him, and Fredrick with your loving family.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
I think he fits in quite nicely with your household (and your color palette!)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bird! Amazing how he just flew into your laps! He sounds like a wonderful fellow to have around.
ReplyDeleteSweet! We were just reading Swallows and Amazons and wondering what it would be like to have a parrot!
ReplyDeleteHe is so beautiful...I am trying to swallow some of my envy here! He looks as though he is quite aware of having the camera on him!
ReplyDeleteI agree he really is a handsome bird, and that colour on the tail feathers is just that extra pop of look at me.
ReplyDeleteI lived in West Africa with my family for a number of years as a teenager and we had some friends with an African Gray. He whistled the theme from "Indiana Jones" and imitated the sound of their metal gate opening & closing followed by the sound of flip-flops on the front walk. He spoke 3 languages! They are delightful birds. Such wonders God hath wrought- even in the animal kingdom.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird! And may I take the opportunity to say that your blog has inspired me to love my vocation as a homemaker and homeschooling mom; I've been devouring all your archives and you have a wonderful style of writing and expressing yourself.
ReplyDeleteHe's stunning; (slightly worried) how do you keep him and Bossy apart?
ReplyDelete- Gilda
You just gotta love that tail!!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping you would update on Frederick...the fact that he is with you are such special circumstances!!

How fun! He is beautiful. It is so strange though that someone abandoned him. Did you ever post a flyer saying he'd been found?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird! We have on parakeet whose name is Gilley. He's a character!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time here, but I've linked to you and will be back to visit at another time.
You live in an old school? Sounds like the show on HGTV! How nifty! I love old structures!
He is so gorgeous, Anna. I am so happy for you! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad for an update. I've been telling your story to my children and they are enthralled.
ReplyDeleteFor all you lovers of African Grey's I just picked up a book at the library tonight that's really a great read. Alex and Me by Irene M Pepperberg. True story. She's a scientist who was studying the intelligence of the African Grey for 30 years. Sadly Alex passed away but that's why she wrote the book.
ReplyDeleteFelix got that book for Christmas this year! Alex was unbelievable.
ReplyDeletei have ALWAYS wanted an african grey - so jealous! have read Irene Pepperberg's The Alex Studies?
ReplyDeleteWhat a talented bird! Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteMy brother has an African gray - Simon. He's such an individual.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful parrot. I've been dying for another bird. I currently have my little conure, Gico, but I would love to add a goffins to our clan.
