I limited the palette to all shades of pink and some red. And lots of really vibrant coral. This quilt really shimmers with color--it makes me think of a hot summer garden in the full sun.
Clara, for all her quiet personality, loves saturated color. This quilt is just right for her.
All the children helped me piece it in a mad flurry at the dining table. Two machines, twelve hands, ninety minutes!
90 minutes! Unreal! It's beautiful, boldly feminine... reminds me of one of Alicia Paulson's quilts.

I want to make easy, functional quilts, not time consuming, works of art. (Though they ARE lovely!) What size are the squares you used for this quilt...and what sizes do you use for the others you've done?

ReplyDeleteWhen you quilt it by sewing the diagonal lines, how do manage the bunched up fabric as you move more to the center of the quilt? You know, the part that would be to the inside of the sewing machine. Do you roll it up to fit it thru, or what? Can you tell this will be my first time doing this?! Thanks for any help and for sharing all the tutorials!

ReplyDeleteI know this is an older post but I just found it and LOVE this style of quilt! I have never even attempted a quilt before, but this has made me feel that I want to tackle it! I love the simple squares, no pattern. I think doing the top of the quilt would be no problem, but I have no idea what to do after that! I have been searching the internet and can't find much, all the quilting sites seem to assume that you know how to do that part or will figure it out on your own. You seem like you do things the simple way (saw your post on the Martha Stewart book), so can you please point me in the right direction? How do I buy batting? How do I attach the 3 layers together? What is the easiest way to quilt them? Maybe you have some tutorials on your site that I haven't seen, but even if you send me to another site with good tutorials, that would be awesome! I really want to make a patchwork quilt for my little girls room in reds, pinks, and blues and I'm ready to get started! :) Thanks so much! So glad I found your site!
