I love it when the thrift store throws down the crewel-work gauntlet. "Here!" it says. "Take this piece of crazy handwork and make a pillow out of THIS!" I can never turn down that insolent challenge.
And really, you know, the worse the embroidery, the better. Because it's fun to see what I have in my stash that can pull a cute pillow out of a woollen nightmare. What piping? What backing? What crazy buttons?
I really love this one. Orange, red, and big fat black. It works for me, and it's staying on my couch.
You have met that challenge beautifully ~ as you always do.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna,
ReplyDeleteI really love your blog; the beautiful moments from your day, the simplicity and the syle. I have to say I am not a big fan of the new tag on each day, "You might like these"... Please keep your beautiful simplicity- don't give in to blog world! Just a thought. Have a lovely Friday.
What a great idea. You have inspired me. I have some lovely crewel my Oma made and I might just make them into pillows. Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteBummer...I was hoping you would say it was in your shop :). I was headed right over! What a wildly fun pillow! I am sure it brings a lovely touch to your couch. Your talent for bringing beauty to your world is inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI actually kind of LIKE the poppies, at least from the picture!
ReplyDeleteI need to stop by the thrift store.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Anna! I too was hoping it would be in your shop. The pillow is SO BEAUTIFUL! I'm glad that you can find all these goodies at the Thrift. It doesn't happen as often for me at ours :)
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!

That's beautiful. In its current state, I wouldn't have guessed it must have started as a rather ugly thrifted embroidered something...
ReplyDeleteLove it! The fabric and buttons are just perfect with it.
ReplyDeleteTotally cute!! Love the poppies and fun buttons!
ReplyDeleteawww... I don't think it was a nightmare at all♥ when I see things like this in the thrift store, I like to think of the fingers that worked so hard on it.... and I often think what a shame it is that all those hours of work are sold for mere pennies.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've made it your own and given it a home☺
That is such a great looking pillow and the backing is perfect.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, you have good company in disliking the inside link. The Composer votes no too! I see that it adds visual clutter, but I love looking at related posts, and I can tell by the numbers that many readers do too.
ReplyDeleteGiles contacted the widget designer to see if it can be modified to be smaller and maybe match the font I use. She said that that feature will be available soon, but isn't yet.
Myself, I'm on the fence.
The pillow is bright and happy!
ReplyDeleteI personally like the link with-in widget. While I recognize that it may not be as streamlined and simply designed as your lovely blog, it makes it easy for me to connect to a post I may have missed.
I found your blog in early 2009, so there are many posts that I have not had the privilege to read. The new widget makes it easier for me do so.
It makes me think of how the Master Designer sees something beautiful in each one of us and does the necessary work to bring out that hidden beauty.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the 'before'?
ReplyDeleteBecause it looks beautiful all the way around to me.
You have such talent- turning something tired,'ugly' and dated looking into an eye-catching,happy accessory! I also enjoy the new "You might enjoy these stories" links- many I am reading for the first time, but it is also a pleasure to re-read posts that I have forgotten. Thank you for all that you do!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pillow! Makes me look at things differently with lots of possiblities. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Thanks for thinking out loud for me. I just past up some beautiful throw pillows at IKEA. It was a sad day. But now, I think I will be on the look out for embroidered fabrics at our local thrift store. Thanks again for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that poppy pillow! It's almost Marimekko-ish...(is that even a word?) Would definitely match my red leather Le Couboursier chairs (and I KNOW that's spelled wrong!)
