How one thing doth lead to another! I made a linen bib backed with canvas, did a running embroidery stitch to outline the bird applique, and *loved* the juxtaposition of materials. The way the fabric flopped in my hand, the rough textures of the fabric and the smooth gloss of the pearly floss.
The natural next step? An entire quilt top pieced out of thrifted linen dresses. Backed in canvas (no batting) and embroidered around each square.
This thing is so bright it's going to attract hummingbirds and wild bulls--not so great for a picnic!
I love the brightness! I would lay on it at the park with a good book! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - it is simple & sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love the way that looks! I sure wish I knew how to do that. I would love to make a quilt like that!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the contrast stitching. It looks so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThat is so colourful - brilliant!
ReplyDeleteHello, I like your quilt pics very much and of course the quilts themselves, could you tell me what sewing machine you use ???
ReplyDeleteWild bulls? You're too funny.
ReplyDeletehi! i love your blog...have been a bit of a lurky reader for a while now but have finally got my own blog up and running...mind if i add you to my blogroll?
ReplyDeleteyour quilts are beautiful and inspiring! i love the colours :) xx
I came across something today which I bought a year ago - a quilt top entirely of silk. I got it cheap on ebay and planned to make it up for my friend, but was surprised that it was heavy, and so left it and almost forgot about it. But this is my solution - I don't need to put a middle layer into it! It will be enough to put a backing on it. Flannel, I think!
ReplyDeleteAnother good idea from Anna!
I was so excited I forgot to leave my name to the above post!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors you've chosen.
ReplyDeleteNice!!! Love these colors and design. But the main thing why it is perfect - fabric- linen! I love linen, as it is natural and environment friendly.
ReplyDeleteIt's so beautiful Anna!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!

Anna, I love gathering bits of fabrics, vintage and thrifted and have wanted to assemble a scrap quilt, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to piece it from various weights and types of fabrics. Do you have advice for a novice sewer?
