A Quiet Lawn
Having just done the airport run to bring Felix home, I stayed here at the house this evening while everyone else went, of all places, contra-dancing. Wonders never cease!
Oooh yeah! When I was in college a small but vibrant group of us would jet out of College Town and hit Small Town nearby for contra dancing (we called it folk dancing, but it was essentially the same). I remember my main dance partner was a tall emaciated dark-floppy-haired philosophy student who would dance in bare feet and always wore a tie-dyed tee shirt. The majority of the dancers were 60-something men and women, and it was a great blend of older rural America and young college kids. Both demographics loved spending those hours together!
Next time, you go too, and see if the Composer will shed his shoes.
I love having the house to myself sometimes! Sometimes a little moment of quiet solitude is needed.
I have a question, when you say you're an evangelical Christian, what do you mean by that? I know the Duggar family also calls themselves evangelical Christians and when I asked my mom about it she told me that we as Christians are all evangelical. So I'm a bit confused to say the least. Does it refer to a type of denomination or theological preference?
Oh! The pic of your quiet lawn and the tire swing so still. Makes me appreciate the craziness of my children when there is so much activity. Never thought about the day when the swings would be still....
I wish we had a folk dancing thing here in Illinois. :( It sounds like so much fun. But then I'm sure you needed a break just like my Mom does every once in a while.
Lovely blog, and lovely pictures! The peaches are beautiful. Our Georgia peaches are ripe here but I have to get mine at our local famer's market by the train tracks. The juice just runs down our chin as we bite into them. I love life and all of God's aboundance!
Solitude is necessary and a sweet gift when it happens upon you.
Contra dancing is a family activity that is blissfully exhilarating. What a sight to see tall brothers swinging little sisters, big daddies twirling their daughters, children watching parents smiling in the dance. Break out the flowing skirts! I hope you can join them next time. {{* *}}
The swing looks a little lonely. Better get that ETSY store stocked up with your amazing goodies. I missed out on the last round....but have been enjoying my colorful tote that I purchased from you all summer.

I DO love those rare quiet times when it's just the house, the yard, and me at home for any amount of time. That is a true vacation!
ReplyDeleteDelicious! It reminds me of my parents place in WI in the evening.... So relaxing!
ReplyDeleteSometimes a quiet house is just exactly what we need, and a lovely yard is icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteI love that big tree with the tire swing!
ReplyDeleteJust looking at it reminds me of those summer days sitting under our large tree in Southern Maine.
