Hard to believe that Felix is finishing his second week of boarding school. He apologizes for not being homesick--the truth is, he's so excited about taking zoology, environmental science, and marine biology all in one year that nothing can dampen his spirits.
We are so proud of him! Managing such a big transition, adjusting to a roommate, doing his own laundry, everything that comes with striking out on his own, he has handled with aplomb and great cheer.
He is such a sweet boy. So glad he's just a few hours away. I'm getting him this weekend!
Oh my, I just realized how much Daisy looks like "the composer"!

p.s. I stumbled upon this blog awhile ago and have been enjoying it very much. I might try making a small doll's quilt this winter but am hesitant.... wish I had a grandmother to teach me patiently.
and, Dad looks like Felix's slightly older brother!! Very youthful! :o)
ReplyDeleteGood for Felix!
ReplyDeleteAnd what lovely light in the photograph!
I was wondering if you might be willing to make one or two more frogs to sell on Etsy? My 2 and 4 year old girls love frogs and I didn't snatch up the frog you made a couple weeks ago fast enough. The green fabric frog was lovely!
ReplyDeleteWell done Felix! As a former high school teacher I can appreciate the transition you have experienced. Regards, Rose
ReplyDeleteYou should not be surprised at the way Felix is making this transition. He has had full family support and seems to have been introduced to life as he grew up and not just all of a sudden. it is so good to see a young person so happy and content and with such eagerness as Felix has. And I only know him through a blog!!!! Go for it all Felix!!! Ms. Dale in Ms.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dale.
ReplyDeleteThe trouble is when you raise them well they do just as Felix is doing. It is rather bitter-sweet.
ReplyDeleteHe is doing so very well.
The picture is wonderful.
I have always been interested in going to a boarding schooling. However, I am afraid the cost would be to great of a strain on my family.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that he is doing well. :)
We've been thinking about Felix here lately. We let our 10 year old daughter read all the bird posts on your blog. She has been obsessed with all things birds for the last 6 months and shows no signs of letting up. She was ecstatic to read about someone else who is as interested in birds as she is. Felix inspires her and she has said more than once how much she would like to meet him and talk to him about... birds.
ReplyDeleteDo you believe in arranged marriages? Ha, ha... perhaps we can revisit that question in another 7 years or so. :)

Rie, the birding community is fanatical about raising up the next generation of birders. Get her plugged in to your local Audubon society. Those birders will love her and take her under their wing! And the American Birding Association has all kinds of youth-oriented contests and activities she can look into. It's a great world to tap into!
ReplyDeleteMelissa Wiley had a "History of Birding" book on her reading list that made me think of your boy. Those classes sound like he must be in heaven!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anna for your reply. She just recently registered for her first birding expedition with the Audubon society. She and her daddy are making a trip of it in September. She's already counting down the days. So sweet. :)
