Bella made little hand pies for our lunch: cheese, onion, and potato from, of course, Nigella Lawson's
How to Be a Domestic Goddess.
They were so rich and good, I asked her if there was a whole stick of butter in the pastry. She looked rather offended and said that no, it called for only seven tablespoons.
Ha. That is hilarious. These look amazing. Must get my hands on that book!
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! They remind me of pasties, from my time in England. Oh, yum.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and I'm really enjoying it. I love your profile description, it sounds like you have a wonderful family. I also love all your vintage patterns. They look great finished.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marcia
They look so good! I can imagine they're delicious, as Bella is an accomplished young chef.
ReplyDeleteLol! I had to translate "a stick" of butter to understand this, WIKI to the rescue!
ReplyDeleteIf Bella would like to cook a filling for traditional Aussie meat pies I'd be happy to email a recipe.
You lucky mom, you! Your Bella is such a treasure! The pies look so very yummy!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day,
Annamaria :)
Delightful!
ReplyDeleteThose do look very yummy. Will have to check for the recipe!
I never thought of making savory hand pies - what a great idea! Thanks for sharing! {grin}

ReplyDeleteI don't know if Bella wants the recipe for a filling for traditional Aussie meat pie, but I do!! I make savory hand pies for my clan and they would love something different.
Please post it in the comments!!
Thanks
Miss Mary
Those look good! I used to make small spinach pies and cheddar cheese ones from a Near Eastern cookbook I owned. The cookbook is gone, but I saved the recipes for those fillings. I guess every culture has their own version of it, e.g. ravioli, wonton, pierogi.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Mary Stewart book in your shop - "Nine Coaches Waiting" is my favorite. I read them in high school; you make me want to go back to them!
At least she knows 7 tablespoons is NOT a stick! — That is one cute story and those are yummy-looking pies. Kudos to Bella all the way around!
ReplyDeleteWonderful response and I say you can never get too much butter in a recipe!
ReplyDeleteBecause, of course, that last tablespoon would definitely have put it over the top! =) They look divine!
ReplyDeleteButter is a beacon of light in the world. :)
ReplyDeleteNigella used to have a show on the Food Network on Saturday mornings. Has Bella seen it?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you could share how you and the Composer picked the children's unique names?
If you need encouragement about the health of butter see the cookbook Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon.
ReplyDeleteany chance you can share the recipe since I do not have that book?
ReplyDeleteBella inspired be! I made these today and they were delicious.
