First let me say I Did Not Do This Embroidery. I found this completed quilt top in a thrift store in Pennsylvania. I bought it because it was super-cheap and it so reminded me of the top I cross-stitched in college and later quilted with my mother.
This one's fancier though. And that border goes all the way around the quilt, of course.
I quilted it last week, all week. I truly think if my sewing machine had been a car, we would have driven to the moon and back. But it's out of my stash!
Did I mention it's large? Fully queen-sized. I don't know what I was thinking when I brought it home. Now I'm thinking that I'm glad I'm finished!
Stunning! So beautiful--I've never seen a cross stitched quilt top before.
ReplyDeleteAbsalutely gorgeous! Where are you going to use it? Your bed, I hope? ;-)

Pretty!
ReplyDelete*GASP!* It's BE-YEW-TI-FUL.
ReplyDeleteAnd I covet.
That is so incredibly beautiful. It is rather sad that the person who did all that wonderful stitching didn't manage to finish her project and enjoy the fruits -- or should I say flowers -- of her labour. Smart of you to have snatched it up. I must learn to do more patchwork and how to quilt. The little I've done has been so satisfying. Thanks for your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! You get the best stuff at the thrift shops. You should see what I have available; it's nothing compared to your shop. But I'll continue to search and hope I can find this kind of gem.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. That was quite the find Anna...and what a lot of work to get it all together ...to the moon and back.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Anna.

A beautiful quilt! You mention quilting it on your sewing machine. I have ust begun to quilt and would love to know how to use the machine to do the quilting. Can you point me to a tutorial? Isn't it very difficult to scrunch a queen size through the arm?
ReplyDeleteOh, GASP, it's GORGEOUS! That is the loveliest thing I have seen in my life. Wow, I wonder how much time went into this quilt altogether, with the embroidery by the Unknown Lady who started it, plus you who finished this lovely piece!
ReplyDeleteThat is truly beautiful...something that a whole bedroom could be decorated around a la Sister Parish or Charlotte Moss. What providence for your family (and your readers vicariously)! Priceless!
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine how long that took you. I'm blessed to have a mother-in-law with a long arm quilter, so thankfully my patience doesn't have to last that long.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's lovely! the months it must have taken someone to cross stitch it! A shame to give it to a thrift shop instead of a family member. Good for you though!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking at this again - you're really becoming quite an adept at machine quilting, Anna. Those parts which look like u-turns look so nice and even - if you'd been going in a straight line, you would definitely have ended up at the moon - and where would your family have been at Christmas time without you? :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I'm thinking it was worth your time!
ReplyDeleteThat would make a lovely gift for one of your daughters for their 'hope chests.' I know that your mother has purchased china for each of the kids, this would make a lovely wedding gift in the future.
ReplyDeleteAh, beautiful! Put it in your Esty shop and let me buy it!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family!
When do we get to hear Bella's "Messiah" solo?

Just gorgeous! I've always wanted to cross stitch a quilt. What an undertaking! Yours looks AMAZING! Your shoulders must be so done right about now. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove this! Great job.
ReplyDeleteThat is just beautiful. Congratulations! I can see why you were inspired to quilt to the moon.
ReplyDeletethat is just beee---yoo-teee-fulll! i love it. blessings- i enjoy your blog so much.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you found this at the thrift! I bet you just about fell over and died. Just like I did when I found a completed twin size redwork quilt at my Goodwill store. So lovely to take home something to love that you know someone spent HOURS on.
ReplyDeleteI have this quilt. My sister and I did the embroidery on it and I hand quilted it. I have never put the binding on it. It's in a drawer in my cutting table, right beside me at this very moment. I have no idea why!!
