A Back-Wrapping Housedress for the Modern Lady

Here's a beautiful new offering from Colette patterns. I have, as you may know, an ongoing fascination with housedresses, and while this one can be made up very elegantly (see below), it also looks suspiciously like the back-wrapping housedress from the fifties that I've made up for my girls.

Here's the Crepe dress photo from the website. Do not even try to say how gorgeous that printed silk is, okay? But do feel free to tell me where to find it.

I'm expecting my pattern to arrive early next week, where it will land of the very top of my pile of things to sew, so stay tuned.

  1. So, is this going to be a housedress, or something more elegant??

  2. This is quite a fantastic pattern... and I can't wait to see what you make of it, but do not have yourself rushed by your readers, please... it would be a pity.

  3. Stunning, can't wait to see what you do with it!
BTW have been treating myself to a helping of your archives every day ... so inspiring. Thank you!

  4. Love it! Since my own dressmaking skills are 'beginner' I'm eager to see what you think of it. I think it would be fun to acquire and sew next spring--when I'll be back in non-maternity clothes after baby-birthing. The pattern looks so comfortable and easy to wear.

  5. I enjoy seeing your sewing projects, and look forward to seeing how this makes up.
It's funny how early fashions come back around again like it's a new idea.

  7. With complete and utter delight I just by chance, with great hope, checked your blog tonight, as I have all summer long.... and voila, you are back!!! I can't say how happy that makes me heading into another homeschool year and a rapidly darkening day... It gets dark early up here in NH so having your blog to settle into after a long day is bliss.

Thank you for the beauty you share!

  8. The older I get the more appreciative I become of the well constructed garment. Such a thing is hard to find in stores....as is the ability to find good fabric.

If only I'd managed a trip to Denver Fabrics when I visited there in July. Alas, our overnight trip to Denver for the 4th of July was far too brief for more than a stolen trip to the Molly Brown House Museum. And I'll likely never travel there again from all the way Down Under!

  9. I like the idea of no closures to sew, but I've been frustrated with wrap dresses and skirts before. I'll be eager to see how it turns out!

  11. That is really pretty, almost pretty enough to be a bridesmaid dress or the like.

  12. Love this! Thanks for the link. My size 2 daughter and my not-size-2 self both love this style, so I think I'm going to order the pattern myself!
