An exciting morning with Bella's new pasta maker! Also a Christmas gift--she had long had her eye on one of these, and we got her an Italian Imperia hand-cranked machine. The girl, she loves to make things from scratch, especially if they are made from flour.
None of us had ever done any of this before, and the instructions and recipe are basically in Italian. But oh, the handy internet. We had a good idea of what needed to happen.
How delightful when our mass of dough actually turned into beautiful fettucini. The machine is great! It does exactly what it's supposed to do, not more, not less. And it feels solid and good.
Hm. Like pasta.
Initially saw the first picture and the light reflected off the pasta maker made it look like caramel. Not sure if pasta makers are meant to look tasty but hey, maybe I'm just hungry!
ReplyDeleteLove that Bella likes making things from scratch. I'm eyeing off bread I'd like to recreate for no other reason than to eat it and know that I made it!
God bless!
How do you say "wow" in Italian?

I have this machine and it is amazing! Have fun making all sorts of great pasta!
ReplyDeleteYummo! I find making my own pasta a relaxing and fun task!
ReplyDeleteIf it didn't come with other attachments, look out for a ravioli maker - also much fun, and much tastier than the bought stuff!
I have this machine! My parents got one for me for $5.00 at a garage sale practically new! Isn't it nice? I'm thinking of making egg noodles today for chicken soup for tonight's dinner.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!! The pasta maker is beautiful. I make homemade pasta using great grandma's recipe, but I don't have a nifty machine yet. So I just roll out the dough real thin and slice it with my pizza cutter. :) Homemade pasta tastes sooo good! Has Bella tried her hand at homemade Raviolis? They're superb!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I've followed your blog for a while now and always love your posts!! :)
Yum!
ReplyDeleteI have one, too, but I don't use it enough! It makes great pasta especially if you spring for special semolina flour instead of using all-purpose. Do you have the ravioli attachment? I've always wanted one of those... I think that Bella would like one, too, and it would make lovely pictures. (hint, hint)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder, I think that I'll use pasta machine today!
Bella certainly lives up to her name. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI discovered making pasta last year when I was trying to cook all local once a week and wanted to use local flour.
ReplyDeleteI followed Alice Waters' directions and do not have a pasta machine. And tell Bella that fresh pasta makes FANTASTIC lasagne - - no boiling noodles first! (blogged here http://thriftathome.blogspot.com/2010/04/lasagne-with-homemade-pasta.html)
My husband asked for, and got gnocchi makers for Christmas. Those also did not come with instructions, so yes, yay internet! (They were wonderful, btw!)
ReplyDeleteYum! We have a pasta maker attachment to our kitchen aid mixer and I always get very excited when my husband pulls it out, as he is the resident pasta maker here. It tastes so good, but is so much work!
ReplyDeleteThis is on my wish list also.Glad Bella is enjoying hers.Really I'm so hungry after reading your last 2 post.Mad Hungry is not just for men.
ReplyDeleteOh Yum!
ReplyDeleteI just ordered a machine too...counting the days until it arrives. I have a girlfriend who interned in Italy for her culinary school...she has offered to come over and give us lessons!
Yours looks yummy! Great job Bella!
Lovely!!! We make homemade raviolis by the hundred every Christmas and it is so good!!! A Pasta maker is one of the best investments!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe have one of those and I love it. The bacon and asparagus bundles can't be all that bad. I'm gonna try them because they look delicious! We don't have nearly as many people in our home as you but, my goodness! I find washing the bedding to be a colossal strain.
