My mother-in-law gives me gifts I would never buy for myself. For Christmas, this golden bowl and golden tray. At first I didn't think they would make themselves at home, at all, but now I really enjoy the vivid glow they give off in the center of the living room table.
This post made me think of Ecclesiastes,
ReplyDelete'Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.' Perhaps your bowl is unbreakable though!
My mother in law always gives me gifts that I just don't know what to do with. Then like magic, one day I need a boot dryer....at least that once I did. Your golden bowl is pretty.
ReplyDeleteIt has taken me a long time to learn to appreciate more the gifts I receive which I wouldn't buy for myself. Others are seeing from a different viewpoint, and the result can be something new and fresh for us.

My Mother does the same! So much Lenox and Waterford! Unless at an outlet store, I cannot see spending that type of money, but I appreciate that my Mom thinks it's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, I hope your mother-in-law doesn't read your blog. I'm just sayin'

I think it's great she gives me surprising things! They're things I would never *think* to buy for myself, or feel okay about spending on. I like that she sees different things in our home, and they work.
