Patchwork Curtains, Finished

Finished! But they're not as big as they should be, so I'm pondering ways to make them bigger without piecing any more.

Maybe new favorite lavender jersey hanging in panels somewhere from the rail? We'll see.

  1. Cute, how about a wide band of solid velvet, satin, or solid lavendar along the bottom?

  4. Gorgeous. You feel they need to be bigger, as in...vertically longer, horizontally wider (and hence more folds) - or both? Would a valance enable you to drop the rod - if you're looking for a tad more height??? Oh my, it's so much easier to noodle about this than it is to do the deed. I have some deed-doing to do here, of a similar type. Gotta go now! Again - gorgeous. You have good color sense, along with everything else!

  5. Oh, how I love patchwork! Depending on how much additional length you need, maybe some tea-dyed cottony lace or fringe would work along the bottom hem.

  6. lovely! I love how patchwork adds up to something entirely new, so much more than its individual pieces. I adore the green and brown you sprinkled in - unexpected and so alive.

I had some shrimpy curtains width- wise; I just added two more panels of related fabric (blogged here: http://thriftathome.blogspot.com/2011/03/1970s-curtains-for-laundry-room.html)

I like the ideas you got here in the comments so far. One more idea - add sheers behind your patchwork panels, on the same clips, but just adding the width or length you need while still keeping the focus on the gorgeous patchwork.

  9. I love your patchwork curtains - they remind me of my childhood and an old logging camp my Poppa bought when I was a girl. At some point the thoroughly manly camp had employed a husband/wife team to cook for the camp and her decidedly feminine touches remained - including patchwork curtains in the bunkhouse. They were faded and hanging in ribbons, but still added warmth and charm.
Just a note about jersey as curtains - I made a room full of quality jersey panels for a friend once - after a few months the weight 'dragged' and distorted the lines terribly - she took them down when even washing did not restore the drape and we made the coziest sheets from the yards of soft jersey. In hindsight, I should have lined them with something more substantial, or perhaps even fused the lining.

  10. These are so pretty! Nothing is as charming as the simplicity of patchwork. Makes me want to see the whole room! Just wondering what color you used on the walls.

  11. It sounded like you needed more width. I love the green bits...those would be fun splashes of colour at either end.
