These are my schoolday granny squares. I make two of them every morning while I sit with Daisy during her math page--she likes the company.
I'm using up leftover yarn which is an excellent feeling, and I'll quit when I've run out of cream. Then I'll sew them all together into what will probably be a baby blankie, for a baby that likes subtle colors.
Um, I'm a baby that likes subtle colors.

This will be lovely! The yarn you're using looks like it has a lot of "oomph". A baby should like that. :o)

That's gonna be one lucky baby!
ReplyDeleteGosh sakes, Anna - you're always doing something useful! :)

they're beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty color scheme. I sit with my youngest teen while he works his algebra lesson- but I hand quilt. Gets us both through it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
what charming boundaries for a project!
ReplyDeleteThose colours are beautiful. It almost makes one wish they had a baby to swaddle in them. Almost. I kinda like my teens though. However, I think I could put those beautiful colours to use while watching TV on a cool night though!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you do with the "tails"? I have made many granny squares, but I think I'm finishing them incorrectly. I have been tying them tightly and then trimming. I'm afraid to wash the afghan now in fear they will come undone. Should I have tied them and then tucked the tails, or not tied them and tucked the tails, or maybe I did it correctly????
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Kay
Kay, when I finish a square I take the tail (it's about 1.5-2 inches long) and weave it into the same-colored stitches. I do it as I go so I never have to face one thousand ends to weave in.
ReplyDeleteI never knew what those were. I bought a large bag of them in wacky 1970s rust colors at the thrift store last year; I thought they would make fun playthings for the children (sort!! Stack!! Tiny blankies!!); the bag also included several items that look like very tiny knitted sombreros. Quite mysterious, but amusing.
ReplyDeleteGranny squares. I love the idea of making my own, as I have plenty of yarn bits leftover from projects and am always trying to figure up ways to use them, and it would be neat to make a blanket for my own baby! Do you care to share your technique? Or I'm sure I could google 'granny squares.' Love the Internet!!
