A Blue Bungalow Apron: Anne Adams 4543

Continuing my bungalow apron experiments: this one was a great success. So very comfortable, and though I say it myself, it's cute!

This is a great pattern--the sleeves are very loose (the seam is open several inches on top), the pockets are deep, the waist ties are in the right places. The bias binding was strangely, unworkably wide, and I had to cut the width in half to make it work, but I appreciate that it *would* have looked nice had it gone together as written.

Definitely I will be making this again--I'd love a whole week's worth of these in different gorgeous fabrics. I noticed the pattern is published "in stout sizes only", although it does go down to a 32 inch bust. I wonder what that's about, because it doesn't feel stout on. It feels productive and homey!

  1. Sigh - I wish I had your sewing skills Anna. Thus far I haven't ventured into the land of clothes as yet. I'm still at the quilting stage with safe squares/rectangles.

  4. Define "stout." Like, able to lift a small car by herself? Or, has trouble fitting into a small car by herself?

  5. that is lovely. That fabric is really sweet - it looks like Denyse Schmidt.
Is this worn as a dress, or really as an apron?

  6. Is a bungalow apron meant to be worn over a dress, or in place of a dress? Perhaps the "stout" designation simply means it is for those who are not perfect hourglass shapes, as it sure seems to have some defined shape. Either way, I love it.

  7. My understanding of bungalow aprons is that they went both ways--they could be a stand-alone dress, or popped over a dress. Certainly in this climate I don't need to have two dresses on! I wear them as dresses, for at-home.

Margo, I think that is Denyse Schmidt! Didn't it cry out for rickrack?

  9. The stout is about the proportions of the pattern, no? In any case, it looks lovely. I adore the details you put into your creations, and keep vowing to one day slow down and do the same. Unfortunately, the bulk of my sewing at the moment is necessity sewing (two kids in desperate need of winter clothing in bigger sizes and new pajamas, as they're sleeping in my husband's shirts!), so it makes it harder to justify taking more time than cobbling things together, primarily on the serger.
