The Annual Panforte

Chocolate panforte! The dairy-free person's answer to fudge. Or to a chocolate advent calendar. I sent this to Giles and told him to cut it into twenty-four pieces, and then it would be time to come home for Christmas. He suggested cutting into halves and coming home early. But I think that's because he really likes panforte, not that he doesn't like his job.

I use this recipe ever year.

In other news, Bella wrote an essay today about the O. Henry story "The Gift of the Magi." Explaining that the Wise Men brought gifts to baby Jesus, she wrote: " . . . and they fell down and worshipped while they were at it." That has been cracking me up all day.

  1. And maybe because he likes HOME better than his job. ;-)

Bella's explanation of what the wise men did makes me laugh, too. I'll probably think of that during some reverent moment this Advent season, and I'll have to work hard to suppress a giggle. :)

  2. Having two dairy free people in my own house, I would love to know what unsweetened chocolates and bittersweet chocolates you use. Sounds wonderful!

  3. Karla, Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate is dairy-free--you know the one that comes in the orange box, in one-ounce squares, eight to a box. Then Ghirardelli's semi-sweet chocolate chips. Not the bittersweet, for some reason it has dairy. It's a minefield, isn't it?

  4. Sometimes, it is life's side-notes,
    as Bella's words atest,
    that help with needed clarity
    for the most important things.
    Worship.

    Good for the wise men.

  5. I love this! What a perfect idea :) I was thinking more along the lines of what DaveneGrace said "Maybe he likes home better!"

Bella's comment made me smile too!

    Have a blessed weekend Anna!

  6. Oooo that looks good. Thank you for sharing. My daughter is dairy/gluten/egg free and I'm going to try it for her....without the brandy though since she's only 2.
