Sewing Salon
After talking about it for months, my hairdresser and friend Cathy finally came over to learn to sew. Her enthusiasm was thrilling. In fact, she had put on quantities of thrift store jewelry in honor of the occasion.
She brought the all-time perfect beginner's project: a bundle of colored bandanas to sew together into a table runner. The edges are already finished, the size is consistent--there's nothing to do but learn to run the machine making even seams.
We had a lot of fun. She is *full* of sewing ideas, even though her skills are still quite rudimentary. As she puts it, her design skills are way ahead of her sewing skills. But not for long!
Oh how sweet of you to teach your friend to sew. Isn't it fun to sew together.. I love it..
ReplyDeleteHave fun.. and we look forward to seeing the pretty things she will make in the future.. Happy sewing to you both.
What a fun idea! I have had my share of beginners getting the sewing bug at my house also. My youngest dd has a crafty friend who never used a sewing machine before and she made pajama pants on the first try. I also bartered sewing lessons for flute lessons for the same dd-fun for all!
ReplyDeleteI envy Cathy!

If you get Bella's friends back you can call it the PVS Sewing School.
ReplyDelete"Her design skills are way ahead of her sewing skills" - that about sums me up, though I'm further than her now! It explains why one of the first sewing projects I tackled was an evening gown...
ReplyDeleteThose are some pretty bandanas, and I like what I see of her outfit. I'm sure she'll make some beautiful things!
Good for her! I hope she continues.

I love the bandanas! I just made my son a quillow out of red and blue bandanas and he loves it. I've been thinking of making a picnic table cloth out of colorful bandanas next. With bandana napkins, it would be such fun for a summer supper!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who is an expert seamstress of straight lines, I love the table runner project. How fun and nice of you to help.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a blessing! A sewing salon sounds delightful!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the bandanas she chose for her first project. She is quite lucky to be learning from such a skilled seamstress. I have seen all the lovely dresses and vests you have posted.
ReplyDeleteSo. much. fun! I love doing that. : )
ReplyDeleteThat. Is. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteA couple years ago, I had the chance to teach a couple of mom-friends a few sewing basics. Their enthusiasm, like your friend's, was such fun.
how fun! My best friend, who is great at sewing, says that because I'm such a newbie I tackle projects before I realize they're too hard. . . . and sometimes succeed! Good luck to your friend.
