With company over for dinner, I put all the fixings for a big Greek salad in separate milk glass containers. Even the pitas were lined up like toast in a toast rack, in one of my biggest footed bowls.
The girls complain about all the cupboard space I give to my milk glass collection, but I think it earns its keep.
Your milk glass collection and your uses of it have always been an inspiration to me. What a lovely use here.
ReplyDeleteO yes - I adore milk glass. There's always room for one more... surely...
ReplyDeleteMilkglass is one of my favorite things to collect. Have you washed yours in the dishwasher before? I've always handwashed mine, but wondered if I could use the dishwasher on the occasion that I use all of it on the table, too.
ReplyDeleteVery cute set-up!
ReplyDeleteMy mother owned a gift shop in the 1970s and sold Imperial Glassware. She often bought an extra piece for her own collection - if she especially liked something. I wish that we had collected the milk glass instead of the carnival glass and clear pressed glass reproductions from those years. Milk glass certainly is easier to live with and use, I think.
Karen, I put mine in the dishwasher all the time. Maven, I tremble to think what my cupboards would be like if my mother owned a gift shop!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! My sister's MIL collected milk glass.
ReplyDeleteI have thrifted silver I've collected over the years.
I'd already given away those items I knew I wouldn't use again but what I did keep takes up a lot of the space in my buffet.
However, it is perfect for occasions like my son's wedding reception and tea parties so it also earns its' keep.
My daughter understands but my hubby doesn't. ;)
my grandmother placed floral arrangements for my wedding in milk glass. it was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI own 1 piece ... a hen sitting on a bowl. everyone in the family has suggested it's 'original' use, but we are clueless(?)
* I also put her in the dishwasher when she gets a little grimy
t 18Anna, I'm inclined to agree with you on the hardworking nature of your milkglass collection. Not a lazy one among the bunch, I'll bet!

I like to see all the white and pale decor in your home - it looks very well there.

I just inherited two new pieces of antique milk glass. With your illustration, I can use them for more than just a pretty kitchen shelf.
ReplyDeleteAnna - between my mom and I we have a fair amount of milk glass. My oldest daughter is getting married in Dec and we will be using a large amount of it for the candy "bar" --- I love this picture.
ReplyDeleteI love that!! Sounds gorgeous!
