Both Boys for the Weekend

Young mothers, I'm telling you now to enjoy having all your children at home while it lasts. Mine have started to disperse and while I take great pride and satisfaction in seeing them succeed at their various endeavors, there is nothing like getting them back under my roof for a weekend.

Fried okra, homemade rolls, and singing+banjo+guitar were the order of our days.

And on the airport run I was able to pick up *two* finished quilts from my mother's house. These are delicious, especially the turquoise . . . .

  1. Sounds like a wonderful weekend! I understand what you mean as my oldest is moving out this month.

  2. A much needed reminder, thank you. It's easy to lose sight of the important in the frustration of stepping on Legos all day!

  3. I totally agree! My sons are all grown and my daughter is now in college. I really do miss having everyone here full time, but like you, I'm really proud of them for the adults they've become.
I know the time always passes too quickly, so enjoy your visit!

  4. Yes, the days pass far too quickly & with young men it seems more of a challenge to keep them close.
I really admire how you invest in your kids. I think even in Christian circles this is not valued enough. Discipleship does indeed start at home.
    Blessings!

  5. Thank you for the humble reminder. I am blessed to be able to worship the Lord with ALL 4 of my siblings under the same roof. It is a great way to stay connected. As for my children, young as they are, my favorite times are when hubby is home for dinner and we all sit around the dining room table. Sometimes I just leave the fork on my plate, kiss the baby in my lap, sit back and just look at everyone. Sure, it usually only lasts a moment as they have one need or another or I have to remind them to stop making silly noises or hand puppets and please keep eating, but I hope those moments seer into my memory.

  6. Yes, the days pass quickly with our children. And your children left home much too young. There is really no hurry!

  7. Yes, my nest is empty now and sometimes it feels lonely.
I do love the turquoise quilt--lovely!

  8. Oh, so, so true.
I am at the same stage. One off to college for the last two years, (and back for a semester), one started this fall, and one soph in HS, who is barely tolerating all the extra parental attention. So hard...

  9. That has got to be so wonderful! I know you are proud of them all--out doing their own things in the world and doing them well, as well they should!!! Love Felix with the banjo!!

  10. Thank you dear Anna, as it becomes too easy to get frustrated that the blocks never quite get put all away, when the toy cars being picked up means they aren't on the stairs and I'm not sure the laundry pile will ever get done. But one more story while being rocked is more important, for soon he won't fit in my lap and the laundry can always get worked on tomorrow, the blocks will just come back out and at least he picks his toy cars up off the stairs on his own accord. Usually. Amanda

  11. That quilt is beautiful! And I seem to be way too late for the store, as usual. I love it that the pieces seem so small -- what size are they?

  12. Yes, I remember those times with fondness! All eight children home with me while we homeschoooled. Those were wonderful times.

  13. Walkingthecat--they are my usual log cabin strips--3 inches wide before sewing (2 inches after) and varying in length as I build up the square.
