The Fruit Bowl Today

The fruit bowl today struck me as beautifully seasonal. The Fuji apples from my favorite farmer, a few pears (they are so good this year!), a butternut squash I have got to remember to roast for dinner--I keep thinking of it at 5:30, and the first orange and pomegranate of the year.

  1. It does look very seasonal - the orange, for me, brings first glimpses of Christmas, because where I live, oranges and tangerines are definitely exotic food and somehow, perhaps being the source of vitamins they are, are a favourite during the winter holiday season...

  2. beautiful! I got our first FL oranges at market today. Haven't seen pears, but the apples are fantastic this year.

  3. I've got a pomegranite in my fruitbowl too! They really do herald the season. :)

I can't wait to make pomanders with some oranges soon as well...usually start that just before Thanksgiving.

  5. Lisa, that's one of my favorite things about this house. And how different the light is from month to month.

  6. Have you ever tried making butternut squash soup? If you haven't I HIGHLY recommend it. It is most scrumptious and perfect for the cold months to boot!

  7. Do y'all snack on your fruit or do you cook with it?

  8. Both, everyone has a piece with lunch, to start with. Then often a piece late in the afternoon.

  9. Okay, thanks! Some time, when you have a chance, will you please write a post about menu planning for healthy eating?
