I am downing this by the pitcherful. I make up a new combination every morning and keep it chilled in the fridge, and drink it without ice.
Basically, it's decaff green tea (I use Salada brand), and anything else.
Green tea and peppermint tea.
Green tea and Red Zinger tea.
Green tea and black currant tea.
Green tea and Wild Berry Zinger.
I mix the green half and half with any of the teas in the cupboard I wouldn't ordinarily drink (I'm a Strong Black Tea with Milk girl), and wow that stuff is good.
I literally drink two quarts a day, and love that it keeps me from being thirsty without messing with my blood sugar.
Would you mind sharing your recipe? The recipes on the tea boxes are for a cup of hot tea. I don't know how to make the quantity of iced tea. And I do want to learn how to make a fruity iced tea with the green tea. (Yes I'm a Georgia girl but never learned how to make iced tea.) Thanks so much if you get a chance.
ReplyDeleteWe've been mixing green tea, decaffeinated teas and lemonade together this summer. It's my husband's "special brew" that all of our guests seem to love, as well as my family! I've been making "concentrates" of it. Mixing all of the ingredients in a small jar with enough hot water to cover everything and then putting it in the fridge or freezer until we need it. then I just take it out, pour it into the pitcher and fill it with cold water and voila!
ReplyDeleteI love this! Do you brew it hot, cool it and then put it in the fridge or do you just drop the tea bags in the cold water?
ReplyDeleteI bring 8 cups of water to a boil Ina saucepan, then turn the heat off and drop in four green tea bags and four tea bags of my chosen flavor. Brew for about six minutes, then remove the bags. Let cool for half an hour or so, then tip into a pitcher and store in the fridge. I never sweeten mine, but a person could. Start with a minimum amount of sugar--maybe 1/4 cup, and stir it in while things are hot.
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteI just brewed a half-cup, in a mug, of green tea and then filled the cup with ice. Added a splash of ginger syrup that I keep in the fridge - so delish.
You can also make iced tea lattes with green tea - I do that sometimes for breakfast if I don't want the heat.
Thank you!! I don't use sugar in a cup of hot tea and will try it first without sugar.
ReplyDeleteLOL, my husband makes his tea like this, except he uses only black tea. Sometimes he forgets to take out the tea bags, so it brews overnight. Needless to say, his tea looks like soda. He adds about an 1/8 cup of sugar to a gallon of water. He will not drink tea any other way.
ReplyDeleteI will only drink it if he has added the blackberry flavor tea. I much prefer coffee.
blessings, jill
I've been doing the same thing! Eight cups of water, except I'm a cheapskate and use only four teabags, steeping them for fifteen minutes - and a half teaspoon of honey per cup. It cools me down just as well as sherbet, but I really don't want to be eating sherbet all day. I just need to find me a nice big pitcher; I'm putting it in mason jars. Today it's a combo of rosehip, Christmas mint tea and green decaf.

have you tried STASH's Licorice Spice tea? amazing and cooling. I wonder if it would combine well with green...

Hey, me too!

I tried this today and it is delicious. I usually make iced tea using Celestial Seasonings blueberry herbal tea, but I like the addition of green tea. A suggestion: you could boil 4 cups of water, steep your usual number of tea bags, and then add 4 cups of cold water to the hot. Then you can decant into a pitcher and put it in the fridge right away without having to wait for it to cool down. A small time saver!
