In a yarn shop in Germany I lifted up a silk scarf and crunched it in my hands and vowed: I was going to buy tiny silk yarn and learn to knit lace, after all. And so I did!
Clara started me off on my scarf on the drive to school. All day I was passing my knitting back to her every five minutes to fix.
There's a distinct change in the pattern where Clara got out of the car. But no matter! It will never show on a moving horse, and I'm having fun, and I definitely understand it better now than I did eighty rows ago. And it feels very very good when I crunch it in my hands.
beautiful! what size yarn and needles?

It's lovely. The color will look so good on you.
ReplyDeleteNothing like homemade I say even if it is done with a little help on the way.
ReplyDeleteOh that is lovely! I have not used true lace weight yarn although I have some in my stash. I need some quiet time to pursue that I think.
ReplyDeleteMust find quiet time....must find quiet time....
I can see why you chose that yarn Anna.
ReplyDeleteSo funny! It looks beautiful and what a lovely color. Isn't it nice to have an expert in the family to hold your hand? I'm looking forward (I think) to the day my kids surpass what I can teach them. They're 3 and 1 and in utero so it'll be a while... :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing to have Clara to teach you!!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!! I hope to continue learning myself.

Congratulations! It's so lovely.
ReplyDeleteinspiring. I had made a similar vow about socks and after 2 winters with them and my lack of love, I was just about to give up. I may re-think that, after this post.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine is a master lace maker. Bobbin lace, though. Such beautiful work! I was always too intimidated to take her classes on it.
ReplyDeleteS O P R O U D OF YOU!

Thanks for the encouragement, readers. I have to say, if I can make it through lace, anyone can.
ReplyDeleteYou've done well! Lace is very satisfying to knit. :o)
