Barton Cottage Shrug in Blue

I finished my merino shrug a couple of months ago, then took my time getting the casing stitched down. It's so clever, the entire neckline and front opening are a casing for a ribbon. Thread it through, pull it, tie, and there's your shaping!

It's a very comfortable garment, and I love the sleeve length, except that they are too short to wear over long sleeves, which is kind of too bad. If I ever knit it again--and I may, it's that nice!--I'll make longer sleeves.

The pattern is from the lovely Jane Austen Knits magazine.

  2. I love your shrug! Did you know you can do this to at shirt? I took a nice pullover T and cut off the neckband and then cut up the middle. I folded all of that under and made a casing and thread the ribbon through. Magical!

  3. so pretty :) You can add onto those sleeves to make them longer if you have more of the yarn you used :)

  4. It's so pretty. That shaping is clever.

I have long arms and I finally just decided that shorter sleeves over long sleeves looks FINE. I have several elbow-length cardis and I refuse to put them away when winter comes - just more of the shirt sleeve and its pretty pattern showing!

  7. Yes, Anna, I was going to say the same thing as Margo - I'm sure there's a certain knit top which you could wear under that. Probably something thin and fitted in the lower arm. It would be a less dressy look, but I think it would work. Good job!

  8. I think it would look good over longer sleeves -- I'd wear it that way.

  10. It is beautiful! And you CAN wear it over a long sleeve shirt. Just a plain long sleeve T-shirt type. It would look fine! I have a sweater with short sleeves that looks really good over a long sleeved shirt in a complimenting color :-) Lovely work, Anna!
