Sally, two inches. I work with three-inch strips, lose half an inch on either side for the seam allowance, and then quilt down the middle of the strip.
Oh, you are simply the Queen of the Log Cabin! Another gorgeous quilt. I, too, am tempted to say it is the most beautiful yet, but I'm sure I've thought that many times before with your quilts. You always work magic with color. Splendid.
I am also a very long time reader and I hardly take the time to comment, especially since my laptop died and I share the home office desktop with my husband.
But I wanted to let you know how much I DO enjoy your posts. This quilt is especially lovely, a mixture of colors I would not have considered but they work brilliantly together.
Two comments...first of all, your prolific quilt output is impressive. This latest one we've seen has such an interesting color neighborhood going on. Also, thank you for mentioning Frank Devol's "Old Sweet Songs of Christmas"(during a previous Christmas season). We definitely enjoy it. There is a note on the back cover of our copy assuring us that if we have "a new stereophonic system, this record will play with even more brilliant true-to-life fidelity. In short, you can purchase this record with no fear of its becoming obsolete in the future". The really shocking thing is that I am old enough to easily remember when my family's first stereo set came home - just before Christmas (1960) - and my parents had bought a new Christmas record. It was *green*! Well, enough with the Memory Lane, and thank you for your inspiring and useful and just plain enjoyable blog. God bless you all, and all you love. B/North
Congrats on the gorgeous quilt! It's such a pleasure to visit your site--I described it to my daughter as "...an oasis of loveliness." Thank you for sharing--it's truly a blessing to the part of my soul that delights in lovely things! :-)
Hope all your chicks get to come home to the nest for Christmas. I'll get to have all four home this year. In fact, I am just a heap of gratefulness this morning: My daughter just got home from college Friday, one of my sons arrived home Saturday after three months of Bible school and a one-month mission trip to Thailand, and all my kids (including daughter-in-law and two grandkids) were here for dinner yesterday. My cup runneth over--God is good!
I love it that you name your quilts. Reminds me of some vintage "How to Braid Rugs" books I have where every rug has a name. Names like "Christmas Bells, Memory Lane, Maine Comfort, and Joy of Living", just too much. How can one not be inspired? Deb H
Oh yes as ever LOVELY! You know I am the log-cabin fan and always do ....(did) the what the normal was, after visiting you for so long I just go with what is there and don't fret over "rules" ha! How's your Momma? Thinking of you all and pray all is well... Blessings~ Lori P.S. all that said, it's a good thing that I am learning to..."break the rules" Thanks! :)
It really looks wonderful. Do you have a log on the nightstand?

I'm a long time reader and that is the most beautiful quilt you have made yet!

Gorgeous
ReplyDeleteLisa, it's a log that's been made into a jewelry box--there are drawers that slide out the cut end, and the whole thing is polished smooth.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Teresa and Katherine!! I like it too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! The jewelry box is unique. Very interesting! Christina
ReplyDeleteIn general, how many inches are there between your rows of quilting stitches? Sally
