Faithful Purple Orchid
This faithful purple orchid blooms again, maybe the third year in a row. These are such great plants to have around. They're always doing something--blooming, or recovering, or sending out roots in unexpected directions.
Sigh. My Phalaenopsis died. I think I overwatered it. Any insights as to how to best care for them? I bought a Dendrobium in hope that It will be more rewarding.
I could not agree more. I have two on my dining table right now -- one dark purple like yours, the other a lighter shade with darker veins -- and a third one is just getting buds again. I find it gives the kitchen a shade of "elegant Japanese restaurant".:)
Thank you for that piece of advice Anna. I think I killed my Phalaenopsis with too much care! Fingers crossed that my Dendrobiums will do better for me :)
Thank you Rose. I will read that post. I'm rather hoping that because this particular Dendrobium is supposed to be an Australian native that I will have better luck with it!
Your orchid posts have encouraged me Anna so I have a couple of pots with small ones.

ReplyDeleteLilian, all I can do with dendrobiums is kill them, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteWith phalaenopsis, I water the 10th, 20th, and 30th of the month, and that is it. I don't even feed them any more. They thrive.
Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLilian, Anna's begiiners' post on orchids is here. http://pleasantviewschoolhouse.blogspot.com.au/2008/04/orchids-without-fear.html
