On this gloriously rainy day
• Daisy rearranged her room all by herself AND made the chili for dinner
• I vacuumed the entire house, top to bottom
• Professional window-cleaners, for the first time ever, made their first pass at the insides of the windows (hurray)
• I wrote a Petrarchan sonnet about credit card fraud
and
• I pondered this: "The sheer activity of reading scripture, in the conscious desire to be shaped and formed within the purposes of God, is itself an act of faith, hope, and love, an act of humility and patience. It is a way of saying that we need to hear a fresh word . . . To open the Bible is to open a window towards Jerusalem . . . no matter where our exile may have taken us."

I love that quote Anna. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteWell done Daisy! I've been thinking about professional window cleaners too Anna, we have a lot of windows. I'll be interested to hear what you think of the final result.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a day of perfect balance. I would love to hear the sestet to your sonnet as it is a problem that is particularly topical at present.
ReplyDeleteMaybe cutting up the credit card is the answer!
Love that! Christina
ReplyDeleteJust perfect!...I was devouring 1Peter last night. I couldn't get enough of what this great apostle was saying. God Bless You!!
ReplyDeletemmmm, I've been dreaming of having someone ELSE clean my windows! What a treat.
ReplyDeleteSince I read the few blogs I follow on the iPad these days, I never leave comments!
ReplyDeleteBut I came over to the desktop to computer to tell you that quote was exactly what I needed today!
Oh, and I cannot believe Daisy is so grown up in what she can accomplish. We are all getting older!
Good job Daisy!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to read your sonnet. I bet it's spot on. My husband recently had to order new debit cards because of his trip to Home Depot.
LOL! I love your eclectic list. Hmmm...professional window cleaners. My grandmother has always had spotless windows. Mine, well, they're covered in ladybugs today.
ReplyDeleteI've often wondered at your window-washing methods, because you almost never mentioned it.
ReplyDeleteGood for Daisy - I don't think of her as being tall enough to do that. (what do I know?)
Lisateresa
Lisa, my window-washing method is usually to ignore, then to get after the really bad spots, as rarely as possible. This method makes things look a lot nicer!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quote. This book is on my to-read list, which grows longer everyday.
ReplyDeleteMy poetry group would love your credit card fraud sonnet, I'm sure! Anyone willing to write in a form gets brownie points.
Your children seem quite capable in the kitchen before they go off into the world on their own. Do you have any tips on encouraging this in children? Mine work at my elbow at times (when I feel patient)--they are 7 and 3. The 7 year old is getting Actually Helpful. The 3 year old is still just adorable and messy.
In Italian or English?
ReplyDeletePlease may be read the sonnet.
I am intrigued by this mystery.
Karen
Polly, it sounds to me like you're on the right track. In just a little while your older one will be doing things on their own.
ReplyDeleteKaren, English of course! I'm working on a book-length manuscript of formal poetry--aiming for about 75 poems, and I've finished 31.
I keep returning to the quote, Anna. Thank you for posting this. I've now copied it out to keep with my Bible. The humility of intention must override what can become routine.
