Clara has graduated from college with All The Honors. We are so incredibly proud of her. Every one of her professors I spoke to said fantastic things about her intellect and ability. Some of them pointed at their own foreheads. I interpret this positively.
Baccalaureate and commencement were both wonderful services.
It all just felt so . . . right. She is the third generation in our family to graduate from this college.
It was a cool, drizzly weekend, so we alternated being out and about for graduation activities with warming up indoors/packing up her apartment. We even had a cozy meal or two around her table, using many improvised implements and pieces of silverware, since most things were packed.
We loved seeing her friends one last time and going out to dinner together.
Here she is, nineteen years old and graduated with two majors! She's back home for a little while with many possibilities. I'm looking forward to watching the next months unfold for her.
Warm congratulations for Clara! What a special time for all of you!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis has got to feel satisfying to you as a parent! Nineteen and done...that has to feel good to Clara, too! Congratulations!

Dear Anna,
ReplyDeleteAs a longtime reader I would love to know how your childrens' high school curricula allowed them to graduate college early. Did they pursue college courses at the local community college during high school? You've talked nuts and bolts about homeschooling before, but I don't remember hearing about how you approach high school learning.
Yes, college classes during high school are the key. Ours are actually at a four-year university, not a community college, but the effect is the same. Our local university allows high schoolers to enroll in anything they want for half-tuition. My kids have generally started around age 14, and by 17 have had one to two years of credits collected.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! How do your children get through college so quickly? Did they finish high school early as well? We have a son who would love to, and is capable of, moving more quickly through school and possibly graduating early. I'm just not even sure how to do that. Any advice? He's 13 and finishing 7th grade right now. He is a very smart and driven kid.

What a special moment for your family.
ReplyDeleteYour words just popped out and hit my heart.
Well done Anna,Composer and Clara.
Congratulations!
Congratulations to Clara!!
ReplyDeleteAgain, about college classes in HS :) do they attend classes in buildings on campus or oine?
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful! Congratulations Clara!
ReplyDeleteThey attend in real life. The college is situated very nearby. I know other homeschoolers who have done online classes though.
ReplyDeleteRachel Marie, our kids have started college classes at ages 14 or 15, depending on the child. We steer them towards courses that will be Gen Ed requirements later, or would be good on a high school transcript--Composition, College Algebra, any foreign language, science with lab, etc. Much of that depends on their interests. They start out with 1-2 classes per semester and by 15 or 16 years old are doing 12-15 hours a semester. We say they are graduated from high school when they are ready to move on to another university full time--although as you can see, they have already been going to college full time!
Thank you for sharing that. I have to get this all figured out. And soon!
DeleteWonderful! Congratulations. I am a home schooler, too and so thankful for this option. Children who love to learn are one of society's greatest blessings.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Clara! Very inspiring and looking forward to hearing about her future plans. Well done, Mama.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Clara.
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful. What I wouldn't give to have you near by to mentor me on my journey of homeschooling. Congratulations!
ReplyDeletePS. I bet you don't have a tv do you? That's probably the first thing you would tell me. Genelle, throw away your tv.
