It's the time of year for domestic renewal: I threw out the old laundry hampers and bought new plastic baskets that actually sort of fit in the shelves of the laundry room. Now I have four instead of three (white, light, dark, delicate) which is just right, and they are off the floor! The room seems twice as big. I am truly enjoying sorting the laundry these days.
Do you have books in the laundry room? In my house, this is the only room without a book.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what a little organization and new tools to do that can do! I'm the same way! Looks great! Christina
ReplyDeleteHilde, all the cookbooks are there. The laundry room is a mezzanine six steps up from the kitchen and open to it by a half-wall.
ReplyDeleteThis is so refreshing! Just when I thought I was the last person on the planet to understand the necessity of sorting laundry by color (and separating out the delicates)! Thank you, kindred spirit, for encouraging my heart (although my whites always thank me, in their own quiet way). ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the baskets, what a sensible arrangement.
ReplyDeleteAh I see your response to Hilde re books. I had a vague recollection of Clara and Felix (?) once battling over the dryer during school time, so I thought the books were for homeschool because I think you said the laundry was the homeschool room? Maybe I have that wrong.
But hey, I hang full size paintings in my laundry!
I spent years looking for and using cute, wicker laundry baskets or the cute fabric ones that looked so pretty.....until they all got broken/sat on/stained/ruined. Then I switched to white ones just exactly like these! They take a beating and look just as good as the day I bought them. And the laundry chore is so much more pleasant. It's the little things, isn't it? :)
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing about a year ago and was amazed at the difference it made in my attitude about laundry. I don't have space in my laundry area to keep them lined up, but they stack neatly together, fit perfectly beside the washing machine, and don't look utterly wretched lined up in the hall on washing days. It's the little things, really.
ReplyDeleteI love that idea--wish I could in my laundry area but it's barely big enough to walk past the washer and dryer! At least I have a washer and dryer! Doing laundry for 4 people (one of whom was a 3 month old infant) by hand for nearly 3 weeks in Russia taught me to be very, very grateful for my washer and dryer here at home! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe right tools really do make the job more pleasant. And sometimes "right" means the ones which delight the eye as well as provide functionality :)
ReplyDeleteRose, the laundry room is also the school room. It's a hard-working area--all the more reason to have the baskets up off the floor!
ReplyDeleteYes, four are just right! We have the same number. :-)
ReplyDeleteAh, the little things! I currently have 4 boxes in the laundry - lights, darks, delicates and mending. Only the mending pile never seems to shrink, only get bigger ... At least I currently have caught up with the hand washing of delicates ...
