I made new napkins. I had to. Bella's been giving our old ones the scornful eye for quite a while, and dropping hints about the exciting new birthday present I could expect.
One yard of 45-inch wide fabric cut into just-about-squares made nine napkins, hemmed with a narrow hem. These are all cotton, which is the only way to go, and very hard to find in out in a store.
I just inherited about 25 vintage linen napkins. I am thrilled! I have been looking for good fabric to make my own. Now I don't have to!
ReplyDeleteVery cute and vintage!:)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! We love cotton napkins: my favorites are made from a thicker tea-towel fabric, thrifted. I'm with ya on the all-cotton requirement....cotton-poly blend napkins just don't seem to do the trick.
ReplyDeletePretty fabric...now for the birthday present?? I love ironing napkins, so calming.
ReplyDeleteLove them. They are so cheery.
ReplyDeleteYou should put some in the shop. I'd buy them :-)
ReplyDeletepretty! And yes, our everyday napkins get quite a workout here. Just curious: how do you manage your narrow hem? Press in a bit and then turn and sew at the machine? I tried the rolled hem foot for my machine one time and it gave me fits, but it would be so useful. Sometimes I avoid the iron altogether and zigzag down a narrow seam allowance, then fold once more and straight stitch. I'm looking for a good method, though, which is why I asked you.
ReplyDeleteLove it, Bella!
ReplyDeleteAh yes - a Happy Birthday to you, Anna. :)

My friend Judy, who is a prolific and skilled sewer like you, generously gave me half a dozen recently and the fabric looks similar. Happy birthday to you Anna, I know your day is around ANZAC Day (25th April here), our Memorial Day. My best wishes to you for a wonderful year ahead.
