Vintage Fifties Coverall: Butterick 5744

I fell madly in love with this pattern the first time I saw it, but it took months to find an affordable copy. Isn't it charming? The sweetheart neckline, the back buttoning through to the front, the way the back and front pieces are cut out in one?

The illustration shows the coverall being worn as a dress, but I find that the sides gap far too much to allow this, and I wear mine over my clothes for serious kitchen and cleaning work.

I found a fun reproduction print fabric in pink, with lots of orange (recognize it from Daisy's smock?). And used delicious but hard-to-find and hard-to-match orange binding.

Your apron is absolutely adorable! I have this pattern too, but haven't made it up yet. (I have a retro feedsack print earmarked for this project).

I love this! How do you do all you do? Homeschooling, sewing, grinding wheat, attorney-ing? Do you ever sleep?

Love the color, Anna! I must call it orange sherbet; it's what popped in my head the second you described the binding as delicious - lol!

You amaze me. I don't know how you find the time. How do you do it? I have three children and homeschool and believe me I am flat out trying to keep the house clean and bake one cake a week.

You have such talent, I love that retro apron and your housecoat too! You have a very full life - and I enjoy stopping by to see what is new.

I think "orange sherbet" is right on! Especially with the binding. Adorable!

I love this and it is PRECISELY the style apron I have been looking for. It seems to be a fairly simple concept...I might try and fudge a pattern out myself. We'll see how THAT goes...since, well talent comes with experience and uhh...well...my experience has been limited! To say the LEAST! :-)

Beautiful job!

anna,

i have been reading your blog for weeks now, first comment this morning.

There is a common theme in the boxes here...HOW do you 'get it all done'. I can guess (you have a plan, you work your plan) but just as your photos are lovely and inspirational, there are many of us out here who will be equally inspired at the beauty of your schedule, and the thinking undergirding your choices.

Would you please share that with us?

I love it Anna. I have a similar pattern but I haven't made it yet. I'll have to get a move on.

I think I need a cover-all like this too! I seem to find messes and ruin more clothing than I care to admit! Your sewing projects make my heart sing!

Gena, Mrs. Mackenzie & Debbi are all begging for your schedule - and I too must add my voice to the request! No pressure, natuarally, but I know you must have a very workable plan to accomplish so very much beauty in your home!

Please share when you are able!

Blessings!
Heather

Wow! Can you take a picture of the "design drawing" - it is the "non-illustration" drawing? I would love to see if I can recreate it in a plus size!

Beautiful!

Mary
