A Cotton Dress for Clara
Clara has outgrown--both in style and size--last year's dress patterns, and we were not being inspired by the patterns at the store, so we did some looking at vintage styles, and found a couple of pleasing ones to try in her size.
This is an Ann Adams pattern from the thirties, I believe. Check out the faux bolero with the scalloped edges, and the decorative button detailng! Other than that section, the pattern was extremely simple, with minimal shaping which was okay because . . .
the pattern called for a belt, and I made my very first one!

That dress looks beautiful on Clara!
Such a lovely dress, Anna. Will Clara wear it to church next Sunday?
I love that dress! I would love one of those- it is just beautiful!
I have got to learn how to do that! Especially with styles being what they are now for girls (and I have 3)! With some effort, I've managed to find some decent dresses, but my oldest daughter is turning 8 this summer, and I fear I won't be able to find anything appropriate for her to wear very soon!
By the way, I want one too! Shopping for Easter dresses was a nightmare. I finally gave up! Yes, I must learn to sew myself. I wish my mom didn't work full-time, she could teach me (or sew FOR ME!)
Utterly gorgeous!
what a beautiful dress and fantastic color! where did you find such a pattern? i'm rather 'new' to all of these fantastic sewing/crafting blogs (it's like having discovered treasure!) and would LOVE to make ...okay ...attempt some of the things i see.
especially the dresses. i wear skirts/dresses exclusively and it's so difficult to find pretty modest things that appeal to my style in the department stores.
i don't expect you to email me because i am sure you are very busy but if you could (nytesong@mac.com) or perhaps mention on your blog where you are finding some of these amazing patterns i would be forever grateful!
thanks,
michelle
Such a pretty dress and a beautiful yellow color!
Beautiful dress, Anna.
What a beautiful dress. I love how feminine it is. That is the problem with clothing these days-even for women...it is sexy and NOT feminine. I love your blog and just love your pictures.
...lovely dress for a lovely young lady. I'm amazed by your abilities as a seamstress. :O)
Like eeeemommy, have a daughter right on the edge between little girl styles and pre-teen styles. *sigh* Shopping is just no fun because there is not much to choose from. So I guess that means more sewing in my future! Since I'm short on time I'll be doing lots of cute little cotton skirts, but OH MY, Clara's dress is just gorgeous. By the time my girl is that age maybe my sewing prowess and available time will coincide enough that I can try something similar. That's a few years away though. Beautiful. Yellow is one of my favorites anyway.
Anna,
that dress is very pretty, and it looks so wonderful on your Clara. She is so pretty, and grown up. I would really like some information on where to find these patterns, and things like that. My daughters are almost 13, and 9, and I could use all the help that way that you can offer. Todays styles make me sick to my stomach.
Clara, you are so blessed to have a mom like yours!

WOW - that's a pretty dress! Just perfect for your pretty young lady.
Lovely, and your daughter is so pretty.
Oh, Anna what a great style for her. You did excellent with the belt. You inspire me so much!
What a lovely dress and a beautiful young lady. She could step right into the pages of a Grace Livingston Hill book! LOL
Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy seeing all of your projects!
Blessings for a wonderful Tuesday!

Very beautiful!
The style of the pattern is so feminine and the dress and color look lovely on your daughter. I have been visiting your blog for quite a while and have been inspired by your handiwork as well as by the thoughts and information you share here. I recently won a bid on a vintage housedress pattern from ebay...thank you for sharing that link! Keep up the excellent work!

Very lovely, the dress and your daughter. I think it is wonderful that you bless your daughters with vintage style clothing. I can see her playing her cello in a field with her pretty yellow dress gathered around her gently.
thanks for sharing your talent-what a blessing and inspiration you are!
Anna,
Your vision for your life just spills out in your blog. It is such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing with the rest of the internet world your day to day "fruit" that your hands accomplish. You definitely inspire me to keep on keeping on!
I love the dress. Clara looks so beautiful.
Very beautiful on your sweet Clara.
Very pretty...you are a talented seamstress! Ü
It is a lovely dress, but the pictures of your daughter in this dress and on Easter Sunday have truly brought out Clara's beauty in spirit.
What a simply lovely dress. Everyone's right - your daughter looks beautiful and so lovely in it too!

Our kids do grow up so fast! Clara looks so nice in her new dress. How nice it would be to see more young ladies dressing that way.
Oh, oh, oh! I love that dress Anna! So beautiful!
