From Giles' Portfolio
I wrote about Giles' recent photo shoots here. He got permission for me to share a few of his pictures with you all. These are all brothers and sisters in a large adoptive family:
Wow. As a photographer who loves portrait work, and who has worked with a few disabled kids before, those literally bring tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing.
As a mother of a child with autism, I am truly touched by the service Giles is providing. The patience, eye for beauty, and the love of his craft and subject is apparent in each shot. Your son is a blessing!
I can't quite put a finger on why I am so moved by his photos here. But I am. And not because the children may be disabled. Maybe it's the fact that as a society, we tend to label and see each other as normal or abnormal, depending upon our own definitions of those words. And his photos of these children lack pretenses about what is normal or abnormal. They are very "comfortable", in the best sense of the word, photographs. Many photos of the disabled, to me, seem to come off as shocking or emotionally fraught with sympathy. . . but these do not. I think they are great. They seem to say something of not just each child in the photo, but I am inclined to flatter you in the sincerest way by writing here that some essence in each photo tells of your son's heart and how he sees other people. With no pretenses.
OK, I am officially a member of the Photography by Giles Fan Club now. How wonderful that he so beautifully captures the blessing of children ... ALL children!
It brought tears to my eyes to see those pictures. When I heard about what Giles was doing from your other post I went to his website and thanked him for doing it. But I will do it again because I don't think I could ever say it to many times. It brings such joy to my heart to see him taking time for people that in todays society usually get pushed to the back.
Anna, thoes are truly beautiful, and Giles captured something of each childs personality and beauty in every picture. Thanks for sharing.
