Wedding Luncheon

This has truly been a wedding summer for us. After Sunday's shower for a friend, today I hosted a luncheon for my brother's fiance--their wedding is tomorrow evening outdoors and the high is in the 100's, heaven help us all.

But today's luncheon was cool and serene. My mother and two sisters-in-law co-hostessed with me, and we used pale blue and chocolate brown for colors. Because the wedding is in the city, not near my house, we had our party there in a lovely restaurant. Not my usual gig, but it turned out beautiful, mostly due to my mother's exquisite taste.

Chocolate roses and blue hydrangeas for the centerpieces.

Waiting for the last guests to arrive. Including my brother's birthmother, whom he located last year. He and his birthbrother joined our family when they were six and eight years old. They had come into foster care after their father, who had custody, died. Their birthmother, who is Korean and not fluent in English, had been pushed out of their lives through a combination of miscommunication and malfeasance. In the twenty years since we adopted them, she had never stopped praying that someday she would see them again.

I got to meet her today. What a miracle! She is loving and beautiful and looks *exactly* like my youngest brother.

Favors: goat's milk soap.

Sometimes it's nice to have someone else do the cooking!

Felix left before the party started, but Giles took this picture first.

How wonderful that your brother was able to find his birthmother. =)

It looks like you and yours did an amazing job with the luncheon. I love the colors you picked; it's one of my favorite color combinations.

OH, I like that picture of you and Felix! I love looking at pictures of parents and their children, and seeing how the children look like this one or that one... Felix has the same curve of his eyes when he smiles that you have, and the same little twist on the side of his nose as you do.

And the roses and hydrangeas were just beautiful. That's my favorite combination of flowers.

AND that's so exciting that your borthers found their mom! I remember once you blogged that you were from a big family - do you have lots of adopted siblings?

Hi Anna,
I don't always comment, but I try to read your blog regularly. I just had to comment on how "simply elegant" your decor was. I also love the picture of you and Felix together. You have such a radiant, natural, and happy look on your faces.
By the pictures and posts lately, it seems you have been in regular service to others. What a blessing for them.

Anna

Thank-you for sharing the story of your brothers, it must have meant a lot to their birthmom to be invited. How was your mom with it? I guess part of me is curious, as I have 5 adopted children. I imagine the Lord must have poured grace upon her for the day.

Love the picture of you and Felix, Anna you are truly beautiful.

thanks again for sharing your life with us.

Sorry to jump in here, Anna... I'm a florist and...

I think that rose variety may be called "Terra Cotta" There's also a rose named "Brown Velvet" which is very similar, too...

I appreciated the rare insight into your life. Just this little tidbit about your brothers helps us to understand better who you are and why you do the things you do.
Thank you for sharing!
