Sunset Picnic

Tonight we planned a picnic at one of the best sunset-watching spots around. It's up above everything and has a comprehensive view of mountains.

I just cooked our regular meal at home and packed it up, along with the thrifted plates I love in different yellow patterns. A pasta with caramelized onions, tomatoes, lentils, and arugula. French bread. A salad.

To our surprise, a brass ensemble was presenting a concert nearby. We were just the right distance away to hear the music drifting quietly towards us, but we could still be silly without bothering anyone.

The lemon soda disappeared quickly.

So did the cranberry-blueberry upside down cake, which travelled nicely in its baking pan, still upside down. Daisy insisted that hers should be "upside right."

Hot tea in real mugs to watch the sunset with (really just an excuse to use my thrifted vacuum Thermos bottle).

Makes me want to whisper.

Anna, Many blessings to you and your family! I have been reading your blog for two days, what a great encouragement you are! I am new to blogging and do not have my own but wanted to say I am amazed that there are women out there that enjoy these dress patterns as much as I! I have felt so alone! I have only just begun to sew ...and I do mean JUST begun...I have looked for dresses and aprons like you have shown for so long....never imagining there to be more women like me out there. I do have to ask, if you do not mind, what State do you live in, it is just lovely. I am also in my first year of home schooling my 12 year old Son and 5 year old Daughter. I will continue to read your blog, I feel as if I am there!

Blessings~

Coming out of lurkdom to say -- beautiful! We are sunset watchers here, too. A viw of the West is my one requirement for a homestead when we buy one! :)

Beautiful pictures as usual. Looks like you all had a grand time. I think that we need to do a picnic too before the weather gets to be too cold.
Take care,

Anna,
I just adore your blog and your pictures. I love that you make the time to enjoy picnics with your family and don't get so caught up in the quotidian events of life to enjoy the little moments of grace in each day. Your blog is so encouraging to me...and inspiring (I have three little children). I would love if you would share the pasta and cake recipes with us!

Ahhhh, so very pretty. I am curious too, what state do you live in?? And, did you live in Europe or something when you were younger??? You seem to have the same kind of "outdoorsy" mind set like Europeans do....espcially like up in Norway. They are always out and about having a wonderful time out of doors and enjoying the sunshine and good food. :)

Anna,
As always, your post has inspired me. Your pictures are gorgeous. I love the idea of just taking what you were making for supper for your picnic. So many times I get caught up in the idea that I need to make the perfect picnic food.
Thank you for sharing a bit of your life.

That is so beautiful, the food and the surroundings. I can almost taste the blueberry upside down cake just looking at your photo. Will check back to see if you post a recipe! Would be a great thing to take to a potluck breakfast here at work. (Ok, we like cake here for breakfast but don't tell anyone!)
