Astra babysits at Christmas, makes a homemade nativity scene, dresses for the holiday, buys roses for the neighbors.
How fun to see all these familiar titles! I had to smile when I read this post, because earlier today I was rummaging through a bookcase, digging out Christmas-themed books. :-)

ReplyDeleteI've been needing a little light reading this month, but I can't quite stomach Richard Paul Evans.
Vintage moralizing is much more palatable, especially with all the delicious GLH details.
I was going to remind you of "The Substitute Guest" but I see someone else already did! I think that, and April Gold, are two of my favorite GLH books that have Christmas scenes in them. How nice to find someone else who likes Grace Livingston Hill.

Oooh, yes, The Substitute Guest. Possibly one of my favorite GLH novels (and I have almost all of them), and definitely my favorite of her Christmas books. I just finished re-reading it (as I do every Christmas)... Our hero, Alan Monteith, stumbles into a real home and family for Christmas. There's a lovely scene of everyone exchanging gifts, much homey cooking (yum - homemade doughnuts!)and other activities, and some very sweet romance as well as a strong Christian message.

Great, now I'm going to have to haunt ebay until I find Astra. It's my all time favorite GLH book, and you've flung a craving on me.
