Moss Tree

This cold gray afternoon we bundled up and headed out to collect moss from the woods. That scratchy, blue-gray-green moss that fluffs up on top of the green-velvety-carpet moss.

It lifts right off in your hands, in a sheet.

We filled two trays full, not collecting too much from any one spot, and brought it home.

Then I took a tree-shaped grapevine form from the craft store, stuffed some floral oasis inside it, and centered it on a vintage silver tray. Starting from the bottom of the tree, I pinned the moss on using floral pins (shaped like hairpins).

Then Daisy pinned in two red cardinals.

Though she has claimed it as her own, she has consented to it remaining in the living room, where we can all enjoy it.

Anna, that is a clever way to make use of that lovely moss! In the first picture, right in front of Clara, I see some beautiful tall reeds with little wispy ends. I can imagine those would look beautiful as an arrangement in a tall vase, urn, or other tall ceramic container. Just by themselves or combined with other winter florals. You are so lucky to live in an area with so much beauty! I just wonder what state you are in? Is it in the north, since here in the south we don't get to see much moss! Out live oak trees do have some beautiful fluffy moss on them, though, but it's different than what you'll have. That moss you have would also look nice on a grapevine wreath, btw.

Thank you for sharing!

Dear Anna,
What a lovely family you have. You show such love for your family by the way you interact with them.

Could you tell me, if you have time to comment, what type of cookie you made in your cookies post that was a star cutout? Looks like it has mini chocolate chips? They are very pretty and would look nice in a gift basket. Is the recipe on your site?
Have a wonderful day.

PS~I thought I would tell you that you have inspired my daughter to start sewing. She has made a bag and wants to do another with a lining. :O)

Jo, those cookies are like regular chocolate chip cookies, except that they are a rolled-and-cut dough. They have mini chocolate chips and orange zest in them as well. They're from the Martha Stewart Christmas Cookbook but I can't find a link online to the recipe.

That's Clara wearing the green coat (a favorite!).
