Wrap Dresses

For a refreshing change from vintage sewing, I bought a dress-making kit from a gorgeously talented Etsy seller. I've been drooling over the creations at her blog for months, and was anxious to make one of my own. This kit contained all the dress pieces already cut out (darts marked with little round stickers!), and some lushly crisp rayon binding. I want more of that!

The dress went together absolutely perfectly and the fit was just right . . .

but before sewing into the red linen I created a muslin to check the fit. I did need to adjust the sleeves to keep them from being too tight. And just for fun, I made the muslin four inches longer so that it doesn't require leggings or a petticoat underneath.

A truly gorgeous design!

Very, very lovely -- that deep shade of red looks great on you. I just love those sleeves. I've been thinking about getting a kit myself... maybe once the weather warms up around here!

beautiful! It is nice to see a photo of you today! Must say, your children look very much like you! What a clever idea-to buy pieces already cut! That is the most grueling part about homemade clothing! :-)

What is a petticoat? And why would it need to be worn under shorter dresses?

Love your hair cut. You look stunning in the red, but I love the lilac floral. I agree with the other ladies, it's nice to see a dress on you, rather than your dress-form. Thanks for sharing the link!
Happy New Year,
Leslie

Divine! Your muslin is much prettier than the muslin my dressmaker has used for our fittings. I am drooling over the lovely design and would love to get a kit myself. Then all I would need is a talented photographer to take lovely photos. (Excellent light!)

I love the red too!

A petticoat is a slip-like garment worn under the dress, with the difference that it is not lingerie, but instead meant to be seen a little. The shorter dress would require it because the cutaway front is as short as mid-thigh at the highest.

Glad you all like them--hope everyone went over to see Suzanne's shop!
