Sweet Plate of Yo-yos
Yesterday I had the must-sit-by-the-fire-and-hand-sew bug so bad! No chance to get to the yarn store to start a knitting project, so I turned to my scrap box instead and started making yo-yos.
When I was growing up my neighbor had a pedestal table in her living room, and it was topped by a yo-yo tablecloth that must have had a thousand pieces in it. I was always fascinated by it. In fact, their whole house was fascinating, since Gloria did a lot of very skilled tole painting. All the interior doors were painted with landscapes filled with tiny realistic people. *And* they didn't welcome company, so I was always getting just the tiniest peek whenever I was there on an errand.
Anyway. Back to the yo-yos. I started making them up in pastel colors, and they looked just like buttercream rosettes, or meringue kisses! I'm enchanted with them, and so is Daisy, who arranges them in piles as they leave my needle, and offers them as cookies to her stuffed bunnies.
I used Heather's pattern, because it's pretty. It's found here.

I love those!
Oh...I thought they were cakes!!
So cute! I feel a new obsession coming on!
Ooh, they look Yummy!
I have a secret hankering for a bedspread made of yo-yos. One day I'll get there, after many such days as you've spent, there are just days when you need to sit and do something with your hands!
Those do look almost good enough to eat!
My mother-in-law turned her yo-yos into curtain tiebacks.

I love (and make) yo-yos, too! Did you know Clover has come out with a little plastic gizmo that lets you make heart-shaped yo-yos? Got one, just haven't had time to experiment with it. Maybe tonight!

Yo-yos are such a nice way of using up scraps. I made some for Christmas ornaments a few weeks ago and gave as little gifts to visitors. Christmas print fabric, if you have some--stitch up a yo-yo as usual, attach a vintage button to the center, covering the hole, and at the flattened edge sew a tiny loop of thread and slip an ornament hanger through. Voila--a gift from the hands. The best kind.
Absolutely beautiful!
& I love toll painting. :l)
