Dogwoods

Who can believe these beautiful fragile blossoms grow freely in the woods?

Such easy beauty.

Gorgeous! Their petals are even beautiful when they wither and fall to ground, strewn across the lawn like confetti.

When we lived in NY the road to our little house was lined with beautiful dogwoods - pink and white. They formed a beautiful canopy to drive under. Your pictures are just lovely.

I love dogwoods. We have one in our back yard. The story goes that a farm couple retired in this house when they passed the farm to one of their children. They brought a cutting (or however one does that) of the dogwood tree from their property.

When our beloved kitty, Storm, had to be put to sleep, she was buried under the dogwood. It wasn't until later that my husband and I wondered if a cat would be offended... dog wood and all. :)

I use the dogwoods in our woods to emphasize the Easter story with my little ones. The petals are in the shape of a cross, and the little red dots on the ends symbolize the nails. The beauty of the flower represents the beauty of what Christ accomplished for us on the cross. And overall, the lesson is that the glory of God is all around us in nature.

Anna, thank you for the beauty that you share on this blog. Yesterday was a very hard day, and I needed to be reminded of the goodness of the Lord. Thank you for showing that to me in pictures.

Gorgeous dogwood blossoms! I, too, am enjoying our dogwoods here in our yard. It's such a lovely time of year!
