With Soup Tonight

To serve with soup tonight: classic saltine crackers and slices of cheddar. I like to serve these in my divided oval Pyrex dish. Everyone owns one of these. They appear in the cupboard in the night.

Also a plate of broccoli crudites. For a dairy-free dip, I mixed into a cup of mayonnaise: the juice of a lemon, a crushed clove of garlic, salt, pepper, and a tablespoon of chopped dill I had frozen this summer.

I too wish one would appear in my cupboard! Anna, your recipe for dip sounds delicious! I'm going to give it a try, but I think I'll add some yogurt, a wee little bit.
I'm curious now, what kind of soup did you make?

You know....I keep opening that door and I haven't had one appear yet! :o)
Not that it won't. I feel a thrifty trip coming on soon.
Have a great week-end! (the veggies look soooo good. I cannot wait for summer produce)

As far as freezing the dill- do you know about freezing other herbs? I haven't been able to find any good info on that. I would love to be able to preserve basil for pesto- if the beetles don't destroy it again this year!

Oh! I don't have that pyrex dish-but my mom, so does & what a nifty use for it.

I am recently in love with Pyrex. It's been a long standing deal that my moms will pass down to me--but now I'm wanting to thrift and find treasures of my own.

I have a web-site that has great recipes with herbs.

LOL!! I have one in MY cupboard, Anna! I hardly ever use it, but I just might get it out to try your cheese and crackers. How many times do you fill yours for your gang:)?

I think my mother gave it to me as one of her castoffs (she's got a couple, too). I really have my eye on my MIL's set of Pyrex mixing bowls--just the right size, cheery, vintage colors. She's still using them, though, and there are probably people ahead of me in line for consideration;-)!

I'll join everyone is saying that I wish one was in my cupboard too. I wonder where you find one of these?? Cheese and crackers is a big hit around here in Dairyland.

The Divided Oval Pyrex Dish Fairy has yet to visit my cupboard. However, the Platter Fairy has been very generous.

I have two of these oval Pyrex dishes, one is copper colored, and my special one is pink. I got mine at the Goodwill before Pyrex got the thumbs up from Martha Stewart and they became treasures. Ebay sometimes has good prices....

Ok I do not have one of these dishes in my cupboard and I too am thinking a trip to a thrift shop is in order - but my first thought was "what kind of soup?"

Anna or someone..can you help me? I remember seeing a waldorf salad recipe on Anna's blog awhile back...I don't remember how long ago(unless I imagined it). I can't find it, now that I want it. Does anyone know where it is?...Anna, you need a search engine on your blog!

Amy F.- it's here:

There is a search place at the top left of Anna's blog- I entered Waldorf Salad, and voila! ;)

I also want to know the soup recipe- it's still chilly in the evenings here, and I love saltines with soup!

Mayonnaise doesn't have dairy in it--in its purest form it is made from eggs and oil.

We had refrigerator soup--bits of leftover pot roast and lamb, some chicken broth, a can of tomatoes, a package of frozen green beans, an onion, some celery, a cup of barley. Good for cleaning out the fridge.
